About me

Who am I...

Online and telephone sessions available during lockdown.
Hi my name is Sally and I have been in your shoes... looking for a counsellor... one I can relate to and one who won’t judge me! It’s a scary time and I was anxious about getting it wrong. I want to reassure you that it’s Ok.

I am a registered member of the BACP working from Stevenage, Hertfordshire. I am a person-centred therapist offering empathic and compassionate therapy.

How can counselling help...

Life brings its own demands and challenges and just when you least expect it these demands and challenges can be overwhelming. We all need extra support from time to time and I feel that using talking therapies (counselling) can help us get back on track and equip us to face the world. By working together we can unravel the areas that cause you to struggle.

What I can offer you...

I have a vast amount of experience working with family issues including foster carers and blended families.   If you no longer live with your children and find this difficult to cope get in touch. I have experience of working with trauma and abuse and the impact this can have on family life.

I also have experience working with people who have a hearing loss and I have a basic knowledge of British Sign Language.

My practice is in Stevenage with easy parking. There is a bus stop about 5 minutes walk away. Access to the counselling room is by stairs.

I offer a relaxed and safe space where together we can explore anything you want to. I am lead by you. I am here to listen and not judge

Please email me, text or call. Leave a message and I will return your call.

I offer evening sessions and some Saturday morning sessions. I am Deaf Aware and have some knowledge of BSL. (Level 2)

I have experience of working with people of all ages from 15 upwards. I can also offer counselling students reduced rate sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (person centred)

Registered Member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

BSL Level 1 and 2

My experience is varied. I have a vast experience of working with people who have suffered trauma in their lives and the impact this has had on their experiences.

I have worked with foster carers to support in the challenges this role brings.

I have experience working with parents who struggle with their teenagers and have also worked with the teenager.

Relationship difficulties have also been a key part in my work.

I have worked in a counselling practice attached to a charity for Deaf children and have worked with clients who have hearing loss or have family members with hearing loss.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
