About me

If you are on this page, you are considering counselling. Seeking counselling and potentially talking to a stranger about your emotions can be incredibly intimidating/daunting but this is a sign that you feel there is a need for change.

My name is Rich and I’m an Integrative counsellor which means I can utilise various approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Humanistic, Solution-Focused, Gestalt, amongst many more. The beauty of being an Integrative counsellor is to provide a service that is tailored to you.

What to expect from counselling?

Counselling is a safe space for you to explore what is important to you, at your own pace. The first session is an opportunity for you to discuss your reasons for seeking counselling and what you'd like to achieve. During the session, we will devise a plan to ensure counselling is tailored to your needs.  Through counselling you can gain awareness, control, and coping strategies to enable you to be the person you want to be.

To book a session please see my details or if you would like to book a free 15-minute consultation click book intro call above.

When enquiring through email, double-check your SPAM & JUNK as my responses don't always go to inbox. With every enquiry, I respond within 24 hours.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Sport Counselling

The goal of Sports Counselling is to help you reach your potential.

Sport counselling is for athletes who are struggling with their mental health. One of the biggest barriers as to why athletes don’t seek counselling is stigma. As elite athletes, you are encouraged to be mentally tough and to be the best athlete to excel in your sport. As a result, the discussion of mental health is deemed a sign of weakness and that you should be mentally tough to ‘get up and get on with it’. This mentality is counterproductive to your mental health and can be a detriment to your performance as an athlete. As elite athletes, several concerns can affect your mental health and performance:
Identity (who am I outside of being an athlete)
Transitioning (retirement, injury, or into a new club)
Injuries
Retirement & uncertainty about future
De-selection
Self-medicating for pain relief
Substance use
Gambling
Financial concerns
Living away from home/always travelling
Disordered eating/ Body image
Perfectionism
Burnout
Stress
Fear of failure
Depression
Anxiety
Anger
As well as worries and struggles within the sporting environment, there will be issues outside of your sport such as relationship/ family issues, grief and loss to name a few,  that will contribute to your mental health struggles. It might not be just one thing, it could be a combination of things. Through Sports Counselling, we can work together to help you gain control and an understanding of your mental health. Also, develop new coping strategies and techniques that will help you reach your potential as an elite athlete but also as a person.
