About me

Has something happened recently to throw you off balance or have you been carrying something that has been troubling you? You may currently feel stuck and be unsure of how to feel better. Sharing will bring a sense of relief and provide an opportunity to untangle your thoughts and reflect on what is happening.

I can help you with family problems, relationship difficulties, and with how you feel about yourself. You may be anxious, lonely or isolated - perhaps you do not want others to worry, think they may misunderstand you, or a critical voice gets in the way of being able to share how you feel.

I can support you if you are struggling with an earlier or recent bereavement, or if you are carrying a sense of loss or sadness in other ways - for who you are, have become, or on behalf of someone else.

I am interested in the passing on of family trauma, its history, and related trans-generational issues, and in problems that may arise from social and cross-cultural expectations and differences. As such, I can also help if you are struggling with a sense of belonging and identity.

How I work

In our sessions, I will listen to what you bring with respect, care, and compassion. I will be gently curious about your memories and the experiences you have had - our emotional responses and ways of relating in the present can often be traced back to earlier times - I will help you to explore and make sense of these connections, at your own pace. Gaining an understanding of yourself in the present, by reflecting on your past, can be challenging but also empowering.

You are an expert on yourself, and I will be led by you. I will get to know you and you will find out about yourself through our relationship. We will work together to notice and understand patterns of thinking and behaviour that may no longer be helpful to you, represent who you are or would like to be.

What happens next?

If you email me, I will get in contact to arrange a suitable time to call you. During this phone call, which is free and will last 20 minutes, you will be able to tell me more about what has brought you to counselling and I will answer any questions that you may have.

If you would like to continue after this call, we will arrange an initial consultation either at the practice rooms which I use in Hove, online or over the phone, after which you can decide whether you would like to work with me.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualification: PGDip in Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counselling

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I have a background in teaching and pastoral work. Since retraining as a therapist, I have worked in low-cost counselling and with students at a University Counselling Service. Alongside my private practice, I teach accredited counselling courses to adults.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
