Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

TESTIMONIALS

  • Thank you for helping to safe our marriage. I'm not sure we would have made it out of the dark tunnel with out your help. Mr and Mrs B.
  • We were very fortunate to find in Julie someone who sits comfortable in her authority, who creates a safe and trusting space and who demonstrates a great deal of love and care for her clients.  She listens deeply, asks very perceptive questions and often offers deeply insightful reflections. We experience her free of any judgement and she has an extraordinary capacity to help us stay connected to each other particularly in those times when things get over heated.
  • I wanted to say thank you. You have made a massive difference to my life and how I view my future. I have engaged with loss of hope, bereavement and death on a completely different level of consciousness which has been massively important to me and my wife.
  • Your knowledge and skill have led me to some significant insights about my experience and emotional life. I know that your commitment to an ethical process will always benefit your clients first and foremost.
  • I've learned how to experience and handle my emotions. I now feel better equipped to cope with the inevitable difficulties, losses and changes of life and death.
  • I am writing as a parent having sought Julie’s help as we started to notice our daughter’s gradual decline into an eating disorder. My concerns were put aside by the GP as being an overly worried mother, I knew something was wrong. A friend of mine recommended we give Julie a call and thank goodness we did. Julie spent time listening to me with compassion and without judgement, which was so reassuring, and then working with our daughter, lead her into an understanding of what was happening for her. Julie listened to her and gently guided her, teaching her skills and helping her to find ways to tackle the disorder, that worked for her. Our daughter really engaged with Julie and therapy and we were so grateful when she finally turned a corner (ironically, just as she was diagnosed by NHS). I just can’t imagine if we had waited for the GP to acknowledge how bad things were before getting help- at the age of 14, our daughter was given help early which made her road to recovery much more manageable. Julie helped our girl find herself again, realising her own strength and self worth. Her journey with the eating disorder is not over yet but Julie’s early intervention, understanding and therapeutic skill has ensured that our daughter (and our family) will be ok.
We cannot thank you enough, Julie.”
