About me

Introduction

I am a qualified counsellor that has experience of working with young people, adults and couples for over 10 years. I work with issues relating to depression, anxiety, cross cultural and identity issues, belonging, relationship problems, infidelity, self-esteem and anxiety.

I provide a relaxed, confidential and non-judgmental space, my clients find me down to earth, approachable and empathic. I understand talking about personal difficulties can be hard, I welcome anyone struggling with any of these issues to take the first step by getting in touch.

My approach to therapy is integrative, rooted in the existential theory. This focuses on increasing self-awareness and the importance of autonomy to feel more confident and content. As each client is an individual, the counselling is tailored to them and their circumstances, incorporating various modalities including CBT, humanistic, person centred and psychodynamic. I am registered counsellor with BACP and adhere to their code of ethics.

How can counselling help?

I believe counselling can help with self-awareness, to see yourself clearly through reflection. By learning what your internal standards are, it will allow you to form a healthier relationship with yourself and in turn others. Therapy can support this, as a qualified individual that is a third party, with your best interest at the centre.

It can also give you a safe and confidential space, that is your time, to explore areas in your life that you are either struggling with or would like to unpack.

What to expect in the first session

I offer an initial free 15-minute introductory talk to discuss what you would like from therapy. If you would like a full session, in this session we will explore what brings you to therapy, what you expect out of it and the way I work. It is also a time to ask any questions that you have from me.

Why have online/telephone therapy?

The popularity of online/telephone therapy increased during the Covid pandemic however, it is not just for lockdown. There are many benefits to and provides new possibilities while remaining as effective as in person therapy.

There are several ways it can be conducted, via Skype, zoom, teams or by phone. By having online sessions, it gives you access to a wider range of therapists to choose from, so that you can focus on what is important, finding a therapist that you connect with. Additionally, people lead very busy lives and online sessions can save significant travel time with a hectic schedule.

Online therapy is usually more affordable then in person therapy and can make the sessions more comfortable as you choose the environment that you’re in, more so when you are in your own home while wearing a comfortable pair of slippers.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
