About me

I am a Psychotherapist working with families and individuals. My approach is holistic, including verbal and non verbal communication.

I specialise in using video interaction guidance (VIG) to support parents improve their communication with each other and with their children.  VIG is recommended in the NICE guidelines for adoption, fostering and attachment. It is especially effective for supporting parents and babies, where it can make a huge difference to increase parents' confidence, and enhance their pleasure in their child.  Supporting attuned communication and hope that things can improve is at the heart of my work with families, individuals and professionals.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist (UKCP registered), a national video interaction guider, parent infant psychotherapist and senior movement psychotherapist. I have over 30 years experience helping a wide range of clients. I have worked in a refuge for women and children escaping from Domestic Violence, psychiatric institutions, and in a parent infant counselling agency. I have run many groups for adults and groups for parents and babies and I have developed projects to support professionals and families. I teach and have published widely as well as edited the book 'Weaving the Cradle'.

Further information

I offer video interaction guidance, which is an innovative way of supporting relationships between members of a family by filming and then editing out and micro-analysing the very best moments. This method increases parents' confidence and helps improve their relationships with their children of all ages. It is a short term therapeutic method. Families usually attend 3 - 9 sessions.

I have founded Babies1st, a non profit social enterprise, which aims to support parents and babies especially before and after birth: www.babies1st.net

I provide expert witness services to the family courts and accept referrals from  Childrens Services.
