About me
As a counsellor:
I run a community interest company supporting the community mental health and wellbeing. We operate a counselling agency and I am one of the counsellors within the agency.
I started this company up because I believe that community cohesion is a really important aspect of helping individuals to thrive and achieve better outcomes, particularly those who experience mental health challenges. For me, supporting you to feel mentally well and more resilient leads to a ripple effect, where you can then help others and so on. Life can be confusing, frustrating and at times scary and if you have no one around you that can hear all of these things without placing judgement or blame then it can also feel like a lonely place. As your counsellor I can give you a non-judgemental ear, where you can say whatever you need to say and know that you have been heard and your voice is valued.
The service is partially funded and we can offer fully funded or partially funded spaces when funding is available. I currently run counselling sessions either in the Hub of Tangmere Village Centre or online.
Training, qualifications & experience
I was a secondary school Science teacher for 16 years. Many of those years were working with young people with additional needs, including working with young men with emotional and social disorders. it was here that my curiosity around counselling and supporting those experiencing mental health challenges began.
I undertook my training and gained my Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling, followed by a Post Qualifying Diploma in working with Children and Young People. I qualified from my Level 4 in October 2020 and have completed nearly 500 hours of counselling sessions since then.
I am currently undertaking a Supervision training course in order to be able to support other counsellors in a supervisory capacity.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
