About me

Hi i'm Michelle, an integrative Counsellor/ Psychotherapist, I am trained in all aspects of mental health, (e.g. anxiety, trauma, bereavement) and have a particular interest in trauma, anxiety and autism. I specialise in working with the mind-body connection.

I am passionate about supporting people to become the person they imagine they could be. It’s important to me to educate as many people as possible on mental health and wellbeing, to raise awareness as well as knowledge.

My Counselling Approach

Integrative counselling is a collective approach to psychotherapy that joins different elements of specific therapies. I use the following approaches, Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  I focus heavily on the concept of neuroscience in counselling. The mind-body connection and the link between our mental and physical health.

The strategies and interventions that I use are tailored to each individual, there is no one size fits all.  I am guided by you and the reasons that have brought you into therapy.  I work relationally believing the success of our relationship to be a key component in supporting you.

My counselling approach strives to empower and guide you through a process of deeper discovery and self awareness into the ways in which you think and feel. We can all benefit from some additional support at times when life becomes challenging, and it can be helpful to talk to someone who is able to offer an alternative insight.

I've helped many individuals suffering from the effects of anxiety, low self esteem, bereavement, anger, stress and trauma. I take a 'whole person' approach which encompasses the mind-body connection- please see my website for more information.

How can counselling help?

Starting therapy can be a daunting process, as a qualified counsellor I can support you at times when life becomes unpredictable and you feel overwhelmed. Helping you to face difficulties and overcome emotional challenges such as, anxiety, stress, bereavement, trauma or depression.

You may feel you need to talk about your life journey and experiences, what is important to you and perhaps the meaning of life. Working with me will give you the opportunity to do this in a safe, non judgmental space. Together we can identify any unhelpful patterns and implement positive changes into your life.

Your Initial Session

Your initial session will involve us going over the confidentiality contract (which will be emailed to you prior to your session to look over).   I will spend the time getting to know more about you.  It's important to me to offer you a non judgmental safe space for you to speak freely. I will answer any questions you may have and if at the end of the session you feel you would like to work together we can discuss future sessions. There  is no pressure to come back, you must do what is best for you.

I offer individual face to face counselling sessions, as well as online.  Each session lasts 50 minutes and is based in my private practice in Rainham, Kent.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
