About me
Hello, my name is Mel and I offer face to face counselling from a room in my home in Langport. My aim is to work with you to support you to understand what ever struggles you are having. Sometimes articulating yourself through conversation can be difficult so I also offer creative ways of working using a range of materials to help you express yourself.
You may be looking for counselling because you feel your thoughts and feelings are stopping you live the life you want, or you want to understand more about your emotional responses to people or situations. Whatever it is, I believe you hold the answers to alleviate the difficult feelings you experience in life, but sometimes it can be hard to grasp what these are.
I offer a time and space that can support you to explore these feelings, and as your self-awareness develops so does the potential to live a life that feels right for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have over 10yrs of experience working as a counsellor. In that time I have worked with various ages from teenagers to older adults exploring a range of emotional challenges and life experiences. I have also worked with the deaf organisation Sign Health providing counselling to Deaf adults.
Alongside my private practice, I work part-time as a psychological therapist for the NHS.
My training focused on a Humanistic model and I offer a person-centred approach to help you understand yourself better, and my post graduate qualification specialises in working with people who have experienced trauma.
- Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (2013)
- BA (Hons) Counselling (2014)
- Diploma in Trauma Therapy (2020)
- Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting (2012)
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I offer a free initial session that can be in person, via video call, or telephone. This is my time to ask some questions about what brings you to therapy, to ensure I have the necessary knowledge to support your specific issue, and your opportunity to ask any questions you have about the therapeutic process and how I work.
If you decide that I am the person you feel comfortable enough to share your experiences with, then we will book in your first session. In this session we will discuss the boundaries of our relationship, what you hope to be different when you finish therapy, and start the discussion about how your hopes can be achieved. During the first session you may experience a range of emotions, so whilst I have described how this session is structured, we will go at a pace that suits you.
