About me

Looking for a therapist can be an overwhelming experience; however, it is already a good step in your journey. You may be needing to be listened to or seeking support for a particular challenge. Emotional pain and mental distress need a space to be explored and processed and therapy can offer a safe environment for this.

Counseling and psychotherapy can provide an opportunity to be in a safe space where you can be listened to by someone who is unbiased and non-judgmental. By sharing your story and your experiences, and building trust and openness in the relationship with your therapist, we can attempt to gain a deeper understanding and insight.

As humans, when faced with struggles, we develop strategies and coping mechanisms in order to survive. Sometimes, these strategies can become stuck and therapy can provide a space where they can be reexamined for their value and purpose. With this, also arises a heightening of self-awareness that can help in preventing old patterns from becoming habitual again. It is an opportunity to look at how you operate in this world and how you relate to yourself and others in the world. This helps in understanding your beliefs and values, your choices and perspectives, and how they inform your experiences. It is a chance to see whether a new way of being is possible which can be brought about by identifying the issues and gaining new perspectives.

This process takes time and commitment but is an investment in your growth and personal development. When life gets hectic and there are too many challenges to face at once, therapy can provide space to take a step back and reassess your priorities and help the emotional process that comes with these changes.

Training, qualifications & experience

My studies in psychology and existentialism have provided a scientific as well as philosophical approach to my practice. I believe the complexity and multi-faceted nature of the human psyche deserves a gentle opening in a warm and safe environment. Basing my approach on existential philosophy, I also consider the body as more than just a vehicle for the mind. One’s psychological and emotional experiences, have an impact on one’s body and vice versa. Similarly, one’s environment has an impact on one’s personal worldview and the body within it which is experiencing that impact. I work with all ages, genders, and backgrounds and offer a non-judgmental space in which you can be yourself, explore your thoughts and emotions, examine the choices you have made and begin to make sense of it all. I assist in this process and help you make meaning of your experiences and find your voice. Often a deep understanding of our experiences helps us process the past, confront and stay in the present, while holding hope for the future.

Not knowing what to talk about or feeling pressure to discuss a struggle are common issues for some people when they first start therapy. I invite you not to pay this too much mind as I believe we communicate with more than just our words and silences can be informative as well as healing. I welcome you as you are at your session time. I offer a relaxed and safe environment where you can be free to share your thoughts, feelings, or experiences that you have difficulty expressing elsewhere due to fear of judgment or expectations. (please note arrival policy in Services and Fees)

As a result of comprehensive doctoral program, I have trained in psychodynamic approaches, cognitive-behavior therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. My practice is often informed by these models but also rooted in existential-phenomenological psychotherapy. I take the view that each client’s experiences are to be approached with their unique needs in mind. Therefore, I tailor my practice to suit your individual needs from a more wholistic perspective, rather than relying one theory or model. Research as well as my professional experiences have revealed that the most important factor that contributes to the process of psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship and I aim to develop a trusting relationship with you. It is important to work with a therapist you feel comfortable working with.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or book an initial consultation with no pressure to continue.

Training and experience

During my training, I had a year-long placement at Bereft Bereavement Services in Acton where I worked with individuals who had experienced a loss. I helped individuals process grief and the trauma that is linked to it. Losing a loved one can also bring up existential questions for some people that demand them to re-examine their own lives as they face the reality of mortality.

I also had a two-year placement at Mind in Hammersmith & Fulham where I worked with clients facing a variety of issues such as eating disorders, childhood and adulthood sexual abuse, anxiety, depression, sexual and relationship difficulties, cultural adjustment, and addiction amongst others.

I also worked in the psychology department at Capital City Academy as an honorary counseling psychologist and psychotherapist as part of my doctoral training. I worked with adolescents and young people (aged 12 and above) facing diverse and complex issues that go beyond what may be viewed as “teenage angst” such as trauma, abuse, violence, identity disputes, stress, anxiety, and depression.

I have had the privilege of working with cultural diversity and the problems that sometimes arise from relocating from one geographical location to another. The rich experiences of our ever-globalizing world can at times be a source of distress and conflict. I believe therapy can provide an opportunity for such conflicts to be confronted and understood.

Education

I am currently in the final stages of completing a four-year Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy. This program is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling (BACP), and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I have had training on human sexuality, critical psychopathology, ethics, social and cultural issues, couples’ therapy, family and systemic therapy, leadership training, existential group training, as well as existential supervision training.

For my doctoral dissertation, I am researching how the experiences of an adult third culture kid influence their sense of belonging, identity, and authenticity.

Qualifications

Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy (4 years at New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling - in final stages)

PG Diploma in Counseling and Psychotherapy (2 years at New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling)

BSc Honors in Psychology and Counselling (3 years at Middlesex University).

Professional memberships and registration

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP 00924348). I am bound by its Ethical Framework from Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I also follow my own personal code of ethics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have had the privilege of working with cultural diversity and the problems that sometimes arise from relocating from one geographical location to another. The rich experiences of our ever-globalizing world can at times be a source of distress and conflict. I believe therapy can provide an opportunity for such conflicts to be confronted and understood.

My specialized interests are expatriate and third culture experiences, grief & trauma, belonging, and anxiety issues. I have been researching TCK (third culture kid) and ATCK (adult third culture kid) experiences for several years. Being raised as a TCK myself, I have first-hand experience of growing up amongst worlds. The changing backgrounds of a TCK amidst multiple languages, religions, cultures, and continents can enrich one’s life but also can be a source of pain, loss, and identity issues amongst others. These issues can be explored in therapy to help navigate life onward.

During the COVID-19 crisis, I am running my private practice online. Sessions can be held on Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime.
