About me

My name is Manuela, and I am a BABCP fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural therapist.

I have worked in the NHS for years and had the privilege of studying with the most prominent figures in the field of CBT research. I am experienced in treating anxiety, depression and trauma effectively, with a particular focus on the context of pain and Long-Term Conditions, for which I have received specialised training.

I am committed to creating a space where you feel able to speak freely about what troubles you.

I won’t tell you what to do, but I will support you overcome the issue by using your strengths.

I am the right therapist if you:

- Are feeling depressed and struggle thinking positively of yourself;

- Have experienced domestic violence or abuse;

- Can’t get rid of your worries;

- Have been through trauma;

- Are unhappy about your work/life balance;

- Are concerned about your appearance and/or how you come across to others;

- Feel stuck with where your life is going, or unable to cope;

- Constantly worry about your health;

- Struggle with intrusive thoughts and compulsions;

- Experience panic attacks;

- Have phobias;

- Have unhealthy habits you want to get rid of, including eating habits.

I am mostly specialised in treating low self-esteem and trauma. While our mind is a beautiful thing, sometimes it can become our worst enemy, and turn against us. This leads to problems like:

- Not believing in ourselves, the imposter syndrome
- Not applying for the job we really want, because we think we’re not good enough for it
- Procrastination (in school, at uni, in work, at home, even hobbies)
- Not enjoying going out for fear of others’ judgement
- Being in a toxic or abusive relationship
- Not being able to let go of a difficult or traumatic past

I can support you challenge those beliefs, make your mind your ally again, and develop a compassionate self-dialogue with yourself. This doesn’t mean condoning the past or making it ok, but rather being understanding towards ourselves and our pain.

I am trained in Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy. I also practice EMDR, which is a very effective technique to process traumatic memories and move on from difficult events.

I am bilingual in Italian and English and having lived in both the UK and Italy for many years, I understand the struggles of living far from home.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Primary Care Mental Health Practice at Uclan (2017)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy at UCL (2018)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training at King's College London (2020)
  • Compassion Focused Therapy at NHS Foundation Trust (2021)
  • EMDR at EMDR Masterclass (2023)

I have worked in primary care within the NHS for 8 years now. Given the high caseload volume, I had the opportunity to build a considerable experience with a number of different presentations. I have worked with over 10.000 clients, and I have always received very positive feedback for my welcoming and informal yet highly professional approach.
