About me

Welcome to The Beech Practice!

Sometimes it's difficult to know when to ask for help. You might be struggling with trauma, anxiety, grief, depression, sleeping difficulties, concentration problems, flashbacks, or simply a sense that something isn't quite right. But, I believe that there is hope to recover, hope for feeling better, hope to get out of a place of feeling stuck.

With 16+ years experience I provide Humanistic Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, the Rewind-Technique, EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Therapy (Level 1). I also deliver a range of counselling training and supervision for trainee counsellors, as well as to experienced qualified counsellors. I am a Clinical Lead for the Children's Society and coordinate the support, training and best practice guidance for all counsellors, psychotherapists, psychological therapists and clinical supervisors.

My team and I are all qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who have specialised in supporting people with their traumatic experiences. We are all trained slightly differently and therefore have got something different to offer. All our counsellors and psychotherapists and registered with either the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or the NCPS (National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society). I am a BACP Accredited member, as well as a NCPS Senior Accredited Member. The team consists of:

- Kelly Walters: Qualified, experienced MBACP Accredited and experienced in working with trauma and grief.

- Alison Bradford: Qualified, experienced NCPS Accredited counsellor who specialises in trauma and school counselling.

- Rebecca McDonnell: Qualified, experienced, MBACP Registered, and experienced as a counselling manager in different schools.

I believe it is very important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor or therapist. You can therefore use a first appointment to get to know each other better, and to spend some time figuring out how counselling or trauma therapy might be helpful for you.

We also support professionals:

Aside from qualifications, I have completed much Continual Professional Development Courses (CPD), which includes:

- Infant and Pregnancy Loss Training (accredited by the Foundation for Infant and Pregnancy Loss)

- Working practically with Dissociation

- Body awareness in Psychotherapy

- Somatic Psychology as integrated into Evidence-Based Trauma Treatment

I specialize in working with any form of trauma, including domestic abuse, sexual abuse (including CSA/ CSE), car accidents, traumatic bereavements, complex PTSD, dissociation difficulties (including Dissociative Identity Disorder), FGM, sudden illness, trafficking and torture. I am trained in the Rewind-Technique by Human Givens College. The Rewind-Technique is a gentle trauma-technique which allows you to process the traumatic memory whilst feeling safe and present.

I have also been trained in Trauma-Focused CBT by the Anna Freud Centre in London, which is a gentle way to increase a sense of safety, working to manage your post-trauma symptoms such as re-living, avoidance, hyper-arousal and negative views of yourself or the world. We can look at processing some of the feelings or traumatic experiences as well. Some people find that very helpful, for others it may not be necessary. The sessions will always be tailored to your wants and needs.

I have also trained in EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. This is a very effective method in the treatment of trauma, as well as anxiety disorders, pain, phobias, grief, depression, addictions, etc.

Aside from specializing in trauma, I also specialize in working with bereavement and loss. I worked for 4 years for a Hospice in Chelmsford, and have provided bereavement counselling through the years in both the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. A loss may include a loss of a person, a job, marriage, contact with family, house or a pet. If you feel you are struggling, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
