About me

I am an experienced, integrative trauma therapist who will give you a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space to explore the things that are causing you difficulty in life.

I have supported people through a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement and loss, relationship difficulties, separation and divorce, domestic abuse, exploring sexuality, health issues, and helping people through periods of change in their life.

My particular area of interest is in working with trauma, abuse and bullying. These are often very painful things to have experienced. I can gently and safely help you to explore and understand what has happened to you and help you to move beyond your distress.

I can help you to become more confident, more true to yourself and to lead a fuller and more rewarding life.

I am currently working online and offer weekly sessions.

If you would like to take the next step and explore counselling with me, I offer a free 30 minute consultation on Zoom so where we can meet and decide if we are a ‘good fit’. To arrange this, please email me at lynn.hickman63@protonmail.com. You can also visit my website  https://www.ridethewavescounselling.co.uk which contains a form through which you can contact me. Please note that I am currently working on Zoom only.

It will be lovely to hear from you!

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MA in Counselling
  • BSc in Economics
  • Certificate in Trauma-Focused Therapy
  • Certificate in Transactional Analysis

I am integrative counsellor, which means that I can draw on a range of therapeutic approaches. These include person-centred counselling, psychodynamic therapy, CBT, attachment theory and transactional analysis. My work is informed by an understanding of neuroscience and how our mind and body respond to what has happened to us.

The most important thing for me is to build a strong, safe, warm and supportive therapeutic relationship with my clients. I believe that this offers the best foundation for change and growth.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
Association for Christian Counsellors (ACC)

The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
