About me

Face to face appointments available. I'm Lucy, a relational psychotherapeutic counsellor working with adults (18+) on a short and long-term basis in-person in Winchester, Newbury and online. If you are struggling at the moment, I offer a safe, warm, non-judgemental, curious and welcoming space where we can explore what matters to you together and find a fresh way forward. Choosing the right therapist can take time, and you may want to speak to more than one. I am therefore open to exploratory enquiries, recognising that you need to find the person that's right for you.

I support clients with a range of difficulties, offering warmth and understanding, helping them discover inner resources and develop new skills and self-awareness to support them in the future. You may be going through a tumultuous time, like the end of a relationship or loss of a loved one. You may feel weighed down, stressed or anxious about how much you have to juggle. You may be carrying emotional pain or questions from your past that you would like to resolve. You may be aware of repeating unhelpful patterns in your relationships or career that you'd like to understand and do differently. Or negative thoughts and feelings may have crept into your day-to-day living seemingly from nowhere. These can be some of the loneliest times. We feel isolated, misunderstood and not good enough. It can be hard for our friends and loved ones to understand. In these moments, reaching out to a therapist offers us a relationship where we can be safe, vulnerable, understood and find new ways forward. This is what I offer my clients.

My therapeutic approach is based on a proven, relational understanding of how humans grow. We thrive when we have a relationship that is dedicated, warm, compassionate, gently challenging and attuned to our unique needs, including our neurological differences. This is what I create together with my clients.

I work integratively, using best-practice approaches to tailor my offering to what you need. I use Gestalt, Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis and Relational psychoanalysis. My work is trauma-informed and I integrate mindfulness and self-compassion theory. This practice is proven to help us find a lasting positive change in how we relate to ourselves and those around us, even in the face of adverse life experiences, mental and physical distress and trauma.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked for 15+ years helping organisations manage change, disruption and recover from crises. This gives me deep insight into how uncertainty can undermine how we function and the way a supportive relationship can help us find the inner-resilience to thrive. My initial academic training in existential philosophy is also a helpful resource.

I receive regular supervision and work in accordance with the ethical standards of the BACP and UKCP. I am continuously investing in my professional development. I attend regular training and take part in research to improve the effectiveness of my approach, to the benefit of my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
