About me

Are you anxious, depressed or overwhelmed? Perhaps you're wondering why things feel like they’re constantly going wrong or falling apart. There may be very real and practical reasons for your feelings, or you may not know why you're feeling the way you do, which can be confusing in itself. You might be struggling to get along with the people you’re close to; or have a sense that you just don’t "get" people or they just don’t "get" you.

Counselling helps all sorts of people get a new perspective and find a way to feel more in charge of their lives. If you want to come and talk to me, you’ll find I can give you time and space away from the pressures of day-to-day life and the opinions of others.

You might not know what you want to talk about, or you might have a clear focus. Either way, I can help you to get to know yourself better, think about aspects of your life and relationships that you want to change, and to find the right way forward for you, however bad things might feel at the moment.

I'm a qualified and experienced counsellor. I see clients in Newbury, RG14, West Berkshire, near Thatcham and Hungerford. Counselling sessions are once a week for 50 minutes. Counselling can be for an agreed number of weeks or months, or open-ended. I work with people who come to counselling for a wide variety of reasons; and have particular experience of working with adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger's and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).

If you’d like to find out a little more about me, or just want to have a quick conversation about whether I’m the right counsellor for you, please get in touch.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

What to expect

If you choose to contact me, then we may have a short conversation on the phone and then potentially arrange to meet for an introductory session.  In this first session, I'll ask a few questions to find out a little about you and what brings you to counselling. You can ask me any questions you have too. Together, we'll decide whether or not there's a good fit and whether you'd like to start regular sessions or not. There's no commitment to start counselling.

If we work together, I'll invite you to talk about anything you want to, and I'll ensure you set the pace for how far and how fast we go in exploring anything you want to talk about. My role is to listen and help you reflect, without being judgmental.

We would meet at The Garden Room, a quiet, dedicated therapy room located in Newbury, ten minutes walk from the centre. Free on-street parking is available.

If you'd like to get in touch, please send an email or call, whichever you prefer, and I will get back to you.
