About me

I am a fully qualified counsellor offering support online or in person from premises in Royston to anyone over the aged 18 or over. I can offer counselling on a short or long term basis depending on your needs and preferences.

I practice as a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor which means that I offer a warm, empathic, genuine and non-judgemental environment. Within this we can build a strong, trusting relationship enabling us to explore your issues, emotions and experiences safely.  I appreciate that every person is unique with their own personal frame of reference and experiences. I have studied a range of approaches and can therefore adapt and use an array of techniques depending on you and what suits you best.

I am compassionate and friendly and have benefitted from counselling myself so can appreciate what it is like to be in your shoes. I know that counselling can be challenging and feel difficult at times, but can also be extremely powerful and rewarding. These are your sessions, for your benefit, so you can take the lead and talk about whatever you wish. Together we can create a safe environment for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, choices and experiences. The most important thing is that you feel heard, particularly at a time when you may be experiencing a range of emotions and feelings that can be overwhelming and difficult.

I am fully insured and am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework to ensure that I work to a professional standard.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a Diploma in Counselling. I have a range of experience working for several years at Lifeline, a mental health charity in Cambridge, as well as volunteering at Cruse Bereavement Support offering one-to-one bereavement sessions. Prior to this I have several years experience offering support to victims and witnesses of crime.

As well as talking, I sometimes use creative materials such as postcard pictures to help explore and articulate your thoughts and feelings if it helps.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
