About me

I have a special interest in helping adults who have unhelpful coping strategies that keep them stuck, such as eating too much or too little; drinking too much; withdrawing into themselves; and/or working harder to activate perfectionist and self-destructive behaviours. Perhaps you've been questioning who you are as you struggle with such feelings and question if you'll ever feel better? Perhaps you struggle to find the right words to talk about how you're feeling and shut down if others ask how you are? You don't know where else to turn, struggle on and feel afraid of what may happen if you're not okay. You are exhausted and want things to change.

I would love to work with you, supporting you to find choices and meaning where neither seemed possible. We can find a way of how to move forwards, into a future with confidence whereby you feel stronger, liberated, and happier.  I work with warmth, honesty and compassion; and I use a blend of therapeutic techniques to suit your personal needs.

I am aware that it takes courage to begin therapy, and seeking support is often the hardest. I enjoy working in-person and online, making therapy easily accessible. I warmly invite you to book your free 15-minute consultation to get a sense of how we might work together. For further information, please visit my website www.lisacrafter.com or contact me here.

I offer a full 60-minute weekly therapy session opposed to the usual 50-minute therapeutic hour.  I believe this gives you the opportunity to have more time and space to feel comfortable to talk and not to feel rushed.   It is important that you really feel seen, heard, validated, and supported.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I am a registered member of the BACP, and a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).  I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling; a Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Therapy; a BSc First-class Honours degree in Psychology; Certificates in Counselling Studies and Counselling Skills; Certificate in Trauma and Complex PTSD.

I am a qualified trauma therapist and I have extensive experience with adults who have experienced Childhood Trauma in the form of rape, sexual abuse, neglect, childhood attachment issues and hidden trauma such as in the form of bereavement and loss.

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Eating Disorders and Obesity from the National Centre for Eating Disorders (London) and I am a qualified practitioner within the centre, working with Anorexia Nervosa, AFRID, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED).

I work with warmth and compassion to understand your inner world, using an integrative approach, tailoring the therapy to suit your personal needs.  We might explore how past experiences and ways of coping have impacted on your present concerns, but our focus will be with what you are struggling with today.  We will seek to change what can be changed, and grow around what is not possible to change.
