About me

My Approach:  Sometimes we don’t know what is making us unhappy and often don’t have time in our busy lives to address the things which are slowing us down or stopping us living life to the full; being our best selves. We continue to carry problems and self-defeating behaviours around with us, when change would make such a difference to our lives.

I am an integrative therapist; I use a range of therapies and am guided by my client’s needs. I work holistically with clients and believe that our emotional state has a direct relationship with our physical and spiritual health.  We will work together to identify and untangle presenting issues and I will support you in identifying strategies to enable you to move forwards in your life.

Counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, non-judgemental environment gives the client the opportunity to unload negative chatter, and to verbalise issues which have been causing tension and unhappiness, sometimes for many years.  Issues and events that keep rearing their heads and continue to cause stress, anxiety and unwanted behavioural patterns can be addressed and dealt with; removing obstacles in the way of your progress.

Counselling is generally used for issues which are causing problems in daily life whereas psychotherapy is integrated within a counselling framework and is used for more deep-rooted issues that may or may not have been identified. These may go back to childhood or involve trauma. I will work with you to unpick these often painful, sometimes subconscious, issues from the past. Working from a psychotherapeutic base will allow you to re-frame, to be objective and see the issue or event from the perspective of the person you are today. We will work together towards acceptance and moving forwards. Counselling sessions may take place over a period of weeks and psychotherapy for a longer period.

My therapeutic approach is significantly Person Centred but includes Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, (CBT), Transactional Analysis, (TA), Neuro-linguistic Programming, (NLP), Gestalt and Rational Emotional Behaviour Therapy, (REBT). I have a special interest in working with clients on self-confidence and self-esteem issues. I offer a calm, safe and non-judgemental space to work with clients, enabling them to gain a clear focus of issues, problems and patterns and to support them in planning their way forwards.

I work with couples and families and offer a safe non-judgemental space to support communication and facilitating resolution of issues which are causing upset, stress and anxiety, enabling these relationships to move forward in a positive manner.

I work with children and young adults on a range of issues which includes supporting them in understanding and managing their emotions, this includes working on self-esteem, self-worth, self-confidence and anger management.  I have an enhanced DBS.  Sessions for younger children may be shorter than 50 minutes, dependent upon the needs of the child.  My work with young children will usually be supported by a guardian at home.

I offer grief and bereavement counselling.

I am also a qualified hypnotherapist. I use hypnotherapy as an integrative part of counselling when appropriate. Hypnotherapy is a safe and natural therapy, using the power of suggestion when you are in a deeply relaxed state. It can be used to support changes in habits and behaviours, to reduce stress and anxiety or to provide calm, relaxation when life is spiralling out of control

Training, qualifications & experience

My background is in education and I taught in Further Education for twenty years, teaching child health and child development; working with teenagers, 16+ up to mature learners/returners to education. My career in teaching included pastoral care of my students and this eventually led me to a change in career. I began training eight years ago and have been in practice for five years now. Although the focus behind my career change was to work with young people, I have done a lot of work in the corporate field, which I have very much enjoyed. I have worked a lot with clients with anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, bereavement and a wide range of other issues. I work mainly from The Natural Health Centre, Woodbridge but also remotely.

I have an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Certificate in Hypnotherapy. I ensure that I keep up to date with current research and methodology. I have recently attended training on Dissociative Disorder and EMDR, (Eye Movement and Desensitisation and Reprogramming). I am accredited by the National Counselling Society and the National Hypnotherapy Society. I have full indemnity insurance and an Enhanced DBS.

My qualifications are: AD Dip PC MNCS (ACC), Cert Hyp  (Counselling and Hypnotherapy) and BA (Hons), PGCE

Key details

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

There is no wheelchair access at the Centre where I work but I have other accessible options which can be arranged. I also offer remote counselling via Zoom and Skype. I have an Enhanced DBS.
