About me

Going to therapy is you investing in you, for you...

We all need support at times... It doesn't mean you've 'failed', that you're 'weak' or need 'fixing' in some way...

It simply means you're a human being who is understandably struggling in this challenging world, and may need some therapeutic support.

My name is Kerry and I'm a Person-Centred Counsellor (MBACP, Accred) who has been supporting people through talk therapy for several years, mainly through working for the NHS.

If you haven't had counselling before, I fully understand it can be hard to know what to look for in a counsellor and what to expect from counselling overall...

The counselling process should be all about you and exploring your world as you experience it. Life is tough and we all need a space to acknowledge and validate how tough it can be for us individually, with our own unique experiences.

The therapeutic relationship you have with your counsellor should be built on trust and mutual respect. To enable this, I offer an open and constructively honest yet empathic, compassionate and non-judgmental interaction.

I strive to enable you to feel empowered enough to give yourself permission to be your authentic self in your sessions, so you can fully explore and speak your truth with me as your counsellor who accepts you for the uninhibited, genuine version of you...

What to expect from me:

I naturally offer everyone I work with compassion, empathy and judgement-free space where they can feel safe enough to be able to express their unfiltered thoughts and raw feelings so we can explore and gain deeper insight into whatever is impacting on their mental health.

It is important to me that you are at the forefront in your counselling experience and I will offer you the time, patience and consideration you deserve to work through what needs to be explored and addressed in counselling.

Even though the work is all about you, I strive for the counselling process to be a collaborative effort, so I play an active part in your exploration and will feedback any insights I sense may be of use to highlight or look at deeper.

Things I can help you explore:

My main area of experience is working with Depression/low mood and I have a special interest in working low self-esteem. I also work with people struggling with mild/moderate anxiety, stress, childhood issues, relationship issues, work related issues, grief and bereavement.

Where to start?

Starting counselling can be a daunting thing to do and finding the right counsellor can be a bit of a minefield, to say the least! But it is so important you find the right counsellor for you as an individual.

If you want to see if we could be the 'right fit', I offer a no pressure, free 15 minute phone call where we can have an open and informal chat to see what your needs are and if we think we could work well together.

If I didn't feel I am the best 'fit' for your needs, with your best interest at heart, I would always be honest about this and try to point you in the direction of what may be a better option for you.

If you feel ready for counselling and want to take that first step to investing in yourself, please reach out and we can look to arrange where best to start for you.

**I always make sure I respond to any enquiry emails, so please check your junk box for my reply if you reach out. Thank you!**

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked as an NHS counsellor for several years, so I have a wealth of experience of working therapeutically both short term and longer term with adults in a therapeutic capacity.

I am fully qualified in Therapeutic Person-Centred counselling and I'm a BACP accredited counsellor.

I'm trained and qualified in the NHS approved 'Counselling for Depression' (PCE-CfD) approach, which is an evidence based therapy specifically formulated for working with depression.

As I offer online counselling, I have completed an 80 hour accredited course in delivering counselling online.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
