About me

Life isn’t always straightforward, and as it is for many, life changing events led me to experience counselling for myself for the first time. I had been in a negative place for a while and knew I needed to do something, I just didn’t know what.

On reflection, by the time I asked my GP for help and to refer me somewhere (anywhere), I was probably quite desperate. And to say I was apprehensive about opening myself up to a ‘stranger’ would be quite an understatement! But, I was committed. I knew that I wanted and needed a change to happen.

My counselling experience ended up having quite a profound impact on my life. So much so in fact, that a number of years down the line I was inspired to make some fundamental changes and retrain to become a counsellor myself.

This was the hardest but the most rewarding thing I have ever undertaken.  Since making that decision, I have now worked within schools and educational settings, from Early Years through to High School. I am passionate about working with children and having a positive impact on their lives.

I work in an integrative way with my clients, believing that each client should be treated as an individual.

Working with issues including: Anxiety, Low Mood & Depression.  ADHD, Dyslexia, ASD, Bereavement, Relationships, Bullying, Self Esteem and Confidence issues to name but a few.

My therapy rooms are based at Dean Clough Mills, where I offer face to face,  & video appointments.

I am a registered member with the BACP, I have full insurance and I am DBS checked.

Please feel free to get in touch for an initial conversation.

Training, qualifications & experience

Currently I find myself working more extensively with teenagers. From working with young people over a number of years, from both a counselling and educational head of year perspective, it is evident that Covid-19 has also had a significant impact on our young peoples personal resilience and wellbeing.  As I worked with year 10 & 11's daily, I have an insight in to the difficulties they may experience at home and within their school environment.  Also I have experience of working with children with ADHD & Dyslexia (self-doubt, self-esteem & anxiety can often go hand in hand).  I am Dyslexic & ADHD myself and I now realise it isn't a negative, I have my very own 'Super Power!'  I offer a safe, confidential place to talk about issues that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. These experiences may exist within their own home, community, workplace or further higher education institution. Ultimately they will be negatively impacting upon the young adult and their relationships.

Short-term counselling for adults can be ideal for providing practical help with issues such as improving confidence, or managing stress or anxiety. It can also provide support and be a crucial ‘processing’ space when facing major life-changes such as menopause, redundancy, retirement, divorce, or bereavement. Short-term counselling helps re-acquaint you with your strengths and top-up your coping strategies, so you can take charge of your own life again.

Longer-term counselling may be needed when the issues you face have been around a long time, began early in life, or are affecting many different areas of your life – for example in cases of undiagnosed ADHD, ASD, self-harm, or ongoing problems with depression, relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
