About me

A little bit about me, my name is Julie Furlow and I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor, offering counselling and psychotherapy. I  have been practicing for over 13 years, and am a Registered member of BACP, which means I have met and maintained the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy's required standards of professional training and experience, and that I adhere to their Ethical Framework.

I undertake a continuous programme of training's to add to my theoretical knowledge, and which also keeps me up to date with any changes in current thinking.

I am qualified to work with adolescents, and adults all which present with a wide range of problems, anger, anxiety, abuse, eating disorders, sexuality and terminal illnesses, to name a few.

I have been involved with IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies), and have undertaken short term solution focused work with their client base. I am also qualified to work with Dementia patients and their partners/carers.

At Broadview counselling I aim to offer you a safe and confidential environment in which you can explore what is troubling you. I fully believe and practice that the counselling relationship is first and foremost, built on trust, and not judgement.

Depending on your needs I am able to offer short term or long term work, whereby we will meet on a weekly basis.

Training, qualifications & experience

My approach to counselling is based on the Psychodynamic model, which takes into consideration unconscious processes and repeating patterns, which can be seated in the past, but manifest in the here and now.

My qualifications are:-

  • Certificate in Counselling Skills and Attitudes (WPF Accred)
  • Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (WPF Accred)
  • Introductory Training to CBT
  • Certificate in Assessment Training (WPF Accred)
  • Certificate in Time Limited Working (WPF Accred)
  • Certificate in Advanced Psychodynamic Theory and Clinical Practice
  • Registered Member of BACP
  • Trained Dementia Counsellor (MIND)

Along with this I have attended numerous CPD days and conferences in order to add to my portfolio and experience.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Emotional distress can occur at any times in our lives and talking with friends or family is not always enough.  It may be then that you might seek professional help.  It takes a lot of courage to take that first step. Counselling is a process which happens when a client and counsellor meet on a regular weekly basis in order to explore emotional and stressful feelings together. By looking and talking about these it can help you see things more clearly and with a different perspective, thus enabling change.
