About me
I came to counselling as a career change after working in teaching for 23 years. I have a special interest in relationship issues, separation and divorce, self esteem, anger management, depression/anxiety and career counselling which comes partly from my own experiences and has been enhanced by relevant training. My most recent paid employment was with a large charity, specialising in two areas: career advice and drug and alcohol addiction. My practice offers you the opportunity to explore your situation while reflecting on and reviewing your progress on an ongoing basis.
I have specialist experience and qualifications in the fields of addiction and careers advice / development.
Please note that I also have significant and longstanding experience in supporting teachers and other education professionals.

EXPERIENCE
I have completed training in bereavement and loss with Bradford Bereavement Support. I have supported the organisation for many years by offering counselling and by sitting on the Training and Supervision Subcommittee, and on the Management Committee as a trustee. I served as Chair of the organisation between October 2013 and October 2016.
As well as delivering training workshops and CPD on a regular basis I take part in an ongoing programme of training and professional development in order to enhance my skills, and also receive professional supervision in order to explore ethical issues and ensure my fitness to practise. I have completed certificates in supervision and in couples therapy, and have completed a Level 6 diploma in career counselling as well as a variety of workshops on psychosexual counselling. I am on the BACP accredited voluntary register.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
In addition to the areas mentioned above I have a particular interest in domestic abuse, family conflict and in issues arising from bullying in the workplace. I have completed extensive study in the field of careers counselling theory and practice and am happy to see clients wanting to explore their employment options, assess their transferable skills and develop a career action plan. I counsel an increasing number of clients who work as teachers or in other educational roles. With my experience of and continued interest in education I can offer perspective, understanding and support beyond that of most therapists.
I am also interested in Aspergers Syndrome and have facilitated a social care workshop at an event organised by The Royal College of Psychiatrists, in order to make recommendations to parliament prior to the implementation of the Adult Autism Bill. I have experience of counselling vulnerable clients within supported accommodation. As a former Diversity Champion in my company I am more than happy to discuss issues relating to protected characteristics and the Equality Act 2010. I have delivered extensive training in the equality and diversity arena.
I am taking on an increasing amount of couples work and am happy to see parents and children over the age of 11 together to explore family difficulties such as communication issues and conflict. I have many years of experience facilitating group work as well as couples interventions. I have set up and facilitated groups supporting vulnerable adults: especially men at risk of suicide. I can also offer a range of training and workshops - some of which could be delivered in the day time by prior arrangement. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
