About me

Hi, my name is Josi and I’m a qualified counsellor.

Why did I choose to study counselling?

I experienced a traumatic event and when I searched for mental health help, I was facing long waiting lists, and I physically and mentally couldn’t wait. I enrolled at my local college to study level 2 in therapeutic counselling, I thought if I can help myself get through this, I can be that support to others.

The journey

From that moment my life became the biggest fastest rollercoaster ever, I thought we would be looking at gaining skills, etc... I had no idea I was about to hang my dirty laundry out to 15 other fellow students and go back to my life from birth. WOW, the journey has been full of highs and many lows, but one thing I learnt very quickly is about the “mask” I have been wearing most of my life, and how exhausting it’s actually been. Each week of attending college, I realised I had found my safe place where I could be me, I was never judged for what I said or was feeling, I was accepted as I was, this was something I hadn’t experienced before.

I explored and challenged every thought, feeling and behaviour, I destructed myself, I laughed, cried, hit rock bottom and had to rebuild myself many times.

Although I started the course for myself, with intentions of only doing one level to gain some skills, I went on to complete level 3 and a level 4 diploma.

I realised that I could be that ray of hope to someone else, I could provide that non-judgemental safe space that I was offered, and that no one is ever alone, there is always someone who wants to help.

That’s me!

Working in a person-centred way is exactly that, my work is client-led, which means you lead the sessions and I will walk beside you on whatever journey presents, I will provide you that safe, non-judgmental space where together we will find the right tools to help you move forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
