About me

In-person, online and hybrid therapy in London and across the UK. My pronouns are he/him.

I specialise in helping clients who feel stuck - in a way of being, a pattern of behaviour, a situation or with feelings they don't fully understand.

Increasingly I work with millennial and Gen Z clients and specialise in helping them with anxiety, depression, low self-worth, shame, bereavement, loss of meaning and major life transitions (such as illness, career change or parenthood). I also have experience supporting clients with trauma, issues around identity (including LGBTQIA+ clients) and those negotiating relationship difficulties. In amongst this I have a particular interest in working with those in the arts and creative industries and the particular challenges their working life can create.

I support my clients to find a route through their challenges that is right for them. By working in a warm, intuitive and collaborative way I help you to discover your own way forward and gain a fresh, more meaningful perspective on your life.

My approach is attentive, calm and transparent, always led by you and your agenda as we unpack the difficulties you are facing. Ultimately, I see our working together as a robust, collaborative dialogue about your situation – a quest we’re on together, through the challenges you’re facing towards a more meaningful life.

Further details can be found on my website www.jonathan-humphreys.com, there is a link at the top of the page.

Getting started

A good working relationship is at the heart of successful therapy and a key indicator of a successful outcome. It is therefore important for you to find the right match, someone you feel comfortable talking to. I offer a free phone consultation to start the process, which can be booked directly my website or on Counselling Directory. This chat will enable you to find out what working with me might be like, check we are a good fit and get answers to questions you might have. There is no obligation to continue.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked therapeutically with diverse client groups aged 18 - 70+ on issues including anxiety, depression, low self-worth, critical voice, stress, trauma, relationship difficulties, bereavement, social anxiety, burnout, questions of meaning or purpose and major life transitions (such as illness, career change or parenthood).

I have counselled young adults in further and higher education as well as working at St Joseph's Hospice Hackney where I saw clients within the bereavement service for City and Hackney. In addition to counselling clients, I train counsellors.

As a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, registered member 400768) I am bound by a strict code of ethics to ensure my clients are kept safe.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
