About me

I offer counselling to individuals from age 18 upwards and couples.  Sessions can be face-to-face, by telephone or video link.  However sessions are delivered, they offer clients a safe and compassionate space in which they can explore their experiences in complete confidence and without judgement.

I have many years' experience of working as a BACP accredited counsellor in Oxfordshire and Berkshire.    I have worked within the NHS  (Berkshire Health Foundation Trust - Talking Therapies), other counselling services as well as operating my own private practice.    Clients seek counselling for many different reasons including depression, anxiety, feeling empty or perhaps experiencing relationship problems.   Counselling is a special space where a person can be listened to deeply, without judgement and experience a new level of understanding and growth.  It is a healing process.

Following a career in Neuroscience research I went on to train as a Psychodynamic Counsellor at Reading University in 2008.   Despite having worked with a huge variety and large numbers of clients over the years,  I continue to learn something new from every single person I work with.   A distinctive aspect of my practice is that I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy.  I have found that progress can sometimes be surprisingly swift when people are offered a safe place to explore; enabling them to tap into previously undiscovered resources of strength and resilience within themselves.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I am flexible to work either on a fixed term basis: deciding on the number of sessions at the start of the work or to work open-ended with no ending planned until the client feels ready to finish the work.

Please feel free to ring and get a feel for conversing with me. I recommend you phone a few counsellors to help you decide on who feels right for you. I may not answer but will phone you back as soon as I have a suitable confidential space.
