About me

How can Counselling help?

Life events such as bereavement, divorce or loss of a job can lead us to feeling "stuck", "confused", "scared" or "isolated." Having someone to talk to can help.

Often we turn to friends or family for support, however in today's "fast pace" society, we may not want to burden our loved ones or we may feel unable to disclose personal issues due to feeling, shame, guilt or embarrassment. In that case "Counselling" can offer a safe confidential space, where the client can explore these difficulties, consider possible options, as well as helping you find coping strategies on both emotional and practical levels.

About Me

I am an integrative Counsellor which means I draw on several models of counselling.  Person-centred therapy under pinning my philosophy, in belief that everyone has the potential of finding their own way through difficult times and painful experiences, when given the appropriate support, where they feel safe and accepted for who they are and what they feel.

Practical Arrangements

I work from my Private Practice in Babcary, which is located within easy reach of Yeovil and Glastonbury.  At the Retreat there is off-road parking, as well as the added insurance of anonymity in this beautiful rural village.

I also offer 'On-line' & 'telephone' Counselling.  This is popular with clients who find it difficult to schedule in sessions or may not be in easy geographic reach of the Retreat.  On-line is also a popular resource for couple work who are in separate locations.

I have flexibility to offer appointments during the day, early evening and Saturday mornings.

What to expect from your first session?

The initial session is free, this will give an opportunity to discuss your needs and how you feel counselling may help. I can also tell you more about the counselling process and the way I work. It is very important client's feel comfortable with a counsellor before making a decision to go ahead.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a counsellor in 2014.  Apart from being in Private Practice, I work as a school counsellor in both primary and secondary schools.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
