About me

I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor and work with adults of all ages in once weekly therapy. I can offer fixed term or open ended therapy.

I have a private practice in central Bristol and also work for two charitable organisations.

There are times in our lives when we might feel sad, lost or confused. We can become stuck in ways of relating to ourselves and others that are ingrained. These deep rooted ways of being may no longer feel helpful in our current lives. It is my role to help you think about these feelings, some of which may be easier to reach, others may be buried deeper.

Experiences at work, in education and in your relationships might be creating challenges for you and how you are feeling about yourself and others. Emotional difficulties whether current or in the past can affect all aspects of life. As a consequence you may be experiencing anxiety, depression or a general unease.

One of the hardest things can be asking for help and meeting a counsellor or therapist for the first time may feel daunting. Perhaps you are not really sure what is bothering you or whether psychodynamic counselling is right for you. After a short conversation on the phone we can then arrange an initial 50 minute consultation at a time that suits you.

My role is to provide a confidential, secure and safe space to help you explore what your difficulties are and the feelings you are having. Together we can think about what might be the underlying causes, this process can be a relief enabling changes to occur and help you have more of a sense of control over your life.

Who is counselling for?

I work with adults from all walks and stages of life. There is no typical person who comes for counselling. It might be that there is something specific you would like us to think about together, you may have reached a crisis point, or feel things need to change. Perhaps there is a general feeling that things are not right and you would like to try and understand more.

What happens at the initial consultation?

The first meeting will be an opportunity for you to tell me all about yourself and what has brought you to therapy at this point. It will give you the opportunity to get a sense of whether the way I work is right for you and for you to ask me any questions. We can think about whether you would like to have open-ended or a fixed number of sessions depending upon what feels right for you at this stage. These sessions are 50 minutes long.

What happens next?

We will meet once a week and find a time that suits you. Each week we will meet at the same time. Each session will be 50 minutes.

Where will this take place?

My consulting room is in Central Bristol at Orchard Street Therapy Rooms. BS1.
