About me

Finding a therapist can often be quite a daunting task, as there are so many different psychological models and approaches to choose from. Thank you for browsing over my profile and I will briefly tell you a little bit more about myself. I have over 18 years experience in Mental Health, providing psychological therapy, in a range of contexts, including voluntary, NHS, Higher Educational settings as a CBT Lecturer and supervisor and now private practice. My training background enables me to tailor my approach, according to your individual needs or goals in life.

I offer therapy to individuals aged 17 years to people aged over 65+ with a range of difficulties including General Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Agoraphobia, Specific Phobias, work-related stress, Obsessional Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphia, Depression, Loss, Bereavement, Low Self Esteem and PTSD and Long -Term conditions such as IBS and pain. Often people are unsure of what they are feeling or just feel so overwhelmed, they don’t know where to start. Together, we will start to explore this at your pace and come up with a plan together, in how you would like to move forward with your life. If you feel you would like to meet to discuss your needs further and take the next step, then please do contact me to arrange an initial consultation.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

I have over 18 years experience working in Mental Health, having worked in mainly GP practices for the NHS.

I am currently working as an Associate Tutor on the Postgraduate Certificate in Low Intensity Interventions at the University of East Anglia.

I have previously worked as a CBT lecturer and supervisor training CBT therapists for the NHS on the Diploma in CBT for Primary Mental Healthcare 2017-2018.

My Training and How I work

I trained as an integrative therapist back in 2004, using both psycho-dynamic and person- centered approaches, along with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, where I met Part one of becoming a registered Counselling Psychologist with BPS membership. I also hold full accreditation with the BABCP as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, where therapy follows NICE guidance and an evidence-base to treating difficulties with anxiety and depression.

I have completed my EMDR training with EMDR Europe, which has become a specialist area for me, as working with people who have experienced traumatic events; however big or small can often lay the foundation in how we relate to others and can significantly impact on our everyday functioning and self- esteem. EMDR is now also recognised by NICE as a recommended therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and is becoming more widely recognised as an effective therapy for many other difficulties.

I also tend to draw on Compassion -Focussed Therapy (CFT) and mindfulness techniques, as often people struggle to overcome their experiences and become self-critical. I hold an enhanced DBS check and abide by the BABCP code of ethics.

A testimonial from one of my previous clients

"The sessions I had with Janine completely changed my life. I have had a lot of counselling in the past but nothing came close to the EMDR work that I did with Janine. It worked on such a deep level, that the anxiety which had complete control over me in the past suddenly seemed totally manageable.

Janine really is a master of her craft. It’s so important to trust who you work with, and it was immediately clear that I could trust Janine. She is incredible at what she does and I couldn’t recommend anyone else more highly, particularly when it comes to CBT and EMDR. She knows exactly what to say, at the right moment, encouraging the therapy to work in the best way possible. She is a Godsend and it was truly a privilege to be able to experience that transformative work with her."
