About me

I am a qualified and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and EMDR therapist based in North Tyneside, who offers online and in-person therapy.

I have many years experience of working with young people (16-30 years) and specialise in working with that age group. I also specialise in helping people with low self esteem, self doubt and anxiety. I offer a free 30 minute session.

The free session gives you the chance for us to meet and for you to decide if you feel I could help you. It is an opportunity to ask any questions and talk about how the sessions would work for you.

I am fully accredited with the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy), a qualified EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapist, and  a registered and accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy)

If you are considering seeing a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist it is important they are fully accredited with the BABCP as this means you can be sure they have been trained to the highest level.

What to expect

In the first session I will explain how CBT and EMDR (whichever is suitable) work, and we will identify specific goals to work towards. We will discuss the issue you are struggling with at present and start to understand the processes that have caused it and those that keep it in place.

My counselling background and warm therapeutic style mean that I am able to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship which enables the therapy to work at a greater depth. This helps me to develop a deep understanding of the difficulties you are facing and use the Cognitive Behavioral model and/or EMDR approach to overcome these problems and find the best way forward.

At the heart of my practice is the belief that combining this deep understanding with tried and tested methods for change enables long lasting movement and healing to take place.

The therapy takes place in a calm and supportive environment in North Shields.

Location

My room is close to the local metro station (North Shields). There are also parking spaces nearby.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
