Jan Albertsen (MA BABCP Accred, MBACP Accred)
I am a qualified and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist based in North Tyneside, who offers online and in-person therapy.
I have 18 years experience of working with young people (11-25 years) and specialise in working with that age group. I also specialise in helping people with anxiety. I offer a free 30 minute session.
The free session gives you the chance for us to meet and for you to decide if you feel I could help you. It is an opportunity to ask any questions and talk about how the sessions would work for you.
I am fully accredited with the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy) and a registered and accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
If you are considering seeing a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist it is important they are fully accredited with the BABCP as this means you can be sure they have been trained to the highest level.
What to expect
In the first session I will explain how CBT works, and we will identify specific goals to work towards. We will discuss the issue you are struggling with at present and start to understand the processes that have caused it and those that keep it in place.
My counselling background and warm therapeutic style mean that I am able to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship which enables the therapy to work at a greater depth. This helps me to develop a deep understanding of the difficulties you are facing and use the Cognitive Behavioural model to overcome these problems and find the best way forward.
At the heart of my practice is the belief that combining this deep understanding with tried and tested methods for change enables long lasting movement and healing to take place.
The therapy takes place in a calm and supportive environment in either North Shields or Tynemouth.
My rooms are close to the local metro stations (North Shields and Tynemouth). There are also parking spaces nearby.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies
The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists.
BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
