About me

About me and my therapy practice

I see the person not the client. With 25 years’ experience as a body worker/ clinical massage therapist, I value the interconnectedness of physical and mental health.  How unprocessed trauma and stress affect both nervous system and mind.

I endeavour to always approach our work together with my whole ‘self’ in a genuine, caring, compassionate way. To be present and offer my presence to you.

Therapy process is a unique two way connection built on honesty and trust. I wish to meet you in my warm, relaxed, non-judgemental space as we explore you. Your unique history, needs, thoughts, beliefs and feelings that shape the person you are. Here it is ok to not be ok and I will support you as you tell your story.

You don’t have to suffer specific issues to attend therapy. You might not even be sure what your problem is, something just doesn’t feel right. You may be struggling with not feeling good enough or why you don’t feel happy? Perhaps you are overwhelmed by the ‘should or could have’s’ driven by your constant inner critic? Always overthinking things, causing you anxiety. You may feel despair or disconnected fearing your future due to the catastrophic state of the world . Life can sometimes feel ‘just too hard’ leaving you feeling isolated, lost, lacking control and vulnerable. I am here to help.

Needing support is not a weakness, it is a crucial part of the meaning making process. I wish to provide you resilience, reassurance and hope even in the darkest of times when the shadows seem never ending. You can realise it is possible to find and embrace the light, creating for yourself empowerment and positive change.

My intention is for you to reward yourself with the time, to reconnect with you, discovering what you want out of life. Therapy challenges you to not be afraid to see your true self. I will be beside you  through this process rather than you tackling things alone, which can be distressing or at times feel impossible.

Practice description

I am a warm, down to earth , empathic and compassionate, experienced therapist who has made a positive difference to many peoples lives. I work from a Person Centred base which supports and frees the power of your individuality. It’s vital to honour and have a safe space to voice your unique difficulties and validate your experiences to realise your inner strength and potential. I work integratively adapting to meet your needs from a Trauma informed approach drawing from Relational, Humanistic, Existential and Mindfulness philosophies.

Trauma affects us wholly. Causing us to remain ‘stuck’, struggling to understand our present, caught in our unchanging past. It is possible to regain control. We calm the effects of traumatic stress on the mind and body by finding balance between our rational and emotional thoughts . This develops our ‘window of tolerance’ for managing our triggers, stressors and our reactive behaviour.

I believe we all possess an innate drive towards wellbeing and healing given the right conditions. Through bodywork I have years of hands-on experience understanding how unprocessed trauma and stress in the body at a cellular level affect both our nervous system and mind. This creates imbalances which can lead to pain, distress, illness and bodily dis-ease.

I am passionate valuing uniqueness and creativity in seeing and being in life.

I offer a free brief introductory call for us to discuss what has brought you to counselling and what your hopes and expectations are for your therapy.

It’s important you feel comfortable working with me as your therapist. Here I will be available for you to ask me any questions you may have about counselling  and my ways of working.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
