About me

Are you feeling anxious; some or most of the time?  Do you know why you feel like this or what you can do to make it better?  Perhaps you feel constantly overwhelmed and exhausted; do people around you struggle to understand how hard it is.  I know from my own experience that suffering from anxiety can affect every part of your life.  Reaching out to someone like me can be really hard to do which is why I offer a free 30 minute phone call to see if I am the right person for you.

I am a warm, friendly and down to earth person; who cares about the people I work with.  I have a passion for helping people who experience anxiety.  I can support you to understand the reasons why you feel the way you do and to develop coping strategies.  Life is not easy but when we have anxiety it can be make things feel impossible.

When you are ready, I am here so send me an email or a text message and lets arrange a call to see how I can help.

In my sessions you will be able to talk freely, and I will really listen and understand what’s happening in your life. Together we will explore what is causing your anxiety, how to relieve your anxious feelings and thoughts and move to a place where we can acknowledge that anxiety is trying to make sure you are safe.  You will be given a safe space to unravel your thoughts and feelings and to look at how you want things to be different. I believe that counselling is about putting you first; something we rarely do.  Although at times being in therapy can be emotional and upsetting it can also be light-hearted.  Whatever happens in our sessions we will be in this together. Every client is unique and therefore sessions are planned around what you want and feel you need right now.

I have been a qualified counsellor for seven years and some of the issues that I have worked with are: being in an abusive and/or unhappy relationship or leaving one, OCD, ADHD, Autism, being bullied at work (approaching burn out), past trauma (including childhood trauma), family problems, bereavement, addictions and the menopause. Sometimes when clients first engage in counselling, they do not know why they feel anxious; that is perfectly normal and we will work it out together.

So why choose me? I have been a similar position to where you are now.  I know what it is like to experience anxiety and be really unhappy.  I also understand it can be hard to take the first step.  Finding someone who can really support you isn't easy.  Through my own life experiences/training and seven years of practice I help and support all my clients to be able to manage their anxiety and understand their needs.  I am just a message away from starting to make life feel better for you. Warmest wishes Helen

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor/Therapist having successfully gained a Foundation Degree in Person Centred Counselling in 2017; after five years training. I completed my Certificate of Proficiency in 2018 and have continued to gain experience accruing over 600 hours of one to one counselling with clients.  I am integrative counsellor; which means I have trained in several different models of therapy, in addition to my main qualification, and because of this I am able to prioritise what my clients need.

My experience is primarily working with adults and young people at all stages of their lives.   My expertise and passion is helping and supporting others who struggle with anxiety. I am able to facilitate my clients to improve their self esteem and confidence.  I have found that once clients start therapeutic work they then start to understand and want to change what lies beneath some of their difficulties.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
