About me

I'm a humanistic/person-centred counsellor, which means I focus on the individual as a whole person. Sessions are a safe and confidential space for you to explore any issues and difficulties that you may be experiencing without fear of judgement. My compassionate approach encourages people to think about their feelings and take responsibility for their thoughts and actions.

Counselling can be an emotional and challenging process but ultimately it can help you understand confusing feelings; promote self acceptance and self compassion; help you recognise your strengths and empower you to choose your best way forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced counsellor and fully accredited with the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).  My counselling qualification is MA Integrative Psychotherapy.

I have worked with a wide variety of clients in a number of different settings including an IAPT accredited service (a service providing NHS psychological therapies) where I was a senior therapist. I have also worked in the third sector for charities supporting women and bereaved people.

Prior to becoming a counsellor I worked for many years in various public facing and managerial roles so I have a wealth of experience in helping and supporting people.

I have a particular interest in the medical sciences which stems from my first degree, a BSc (Hons) Pharmacology /Physiology. I use this knowledge to inform my approach to counselling and psychotherapy.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

The first session is an assessment and lasts only 30 minutes. This is an opportunity for us to meet and find out if I'm the right counsellor for you. I'll want to know a little about you and what brings you to counselling and you can find out about me an how I work. This can be done over the phone or face to face. There is no charge for this session.
