About me

Welcome

Counselling is not just for people with mental health concerns, it is a space to talk through whatever is worrying you, no matter how big or small that my seem to you - it matters and what you have to say matters and I want to offer you a safe, secure place to do that. A place where you feel truly understood and accepted exactly as you are.

Do you find that you often put others needs above your own? Perhaps you've forgotten what it’s like to even think about yourself, your wants and your needs. I wonder if you are even aware you have needs or have simply lost touch with what they are?

Counselling is an investment in YOU, a space where it is all about you and your needs. It might be the only time you have to focus on you and your own mental health without any outside stressors. Afterall, without our mental health, what do we have?

We've all heard the saying that its good to talk, but have you noticed that people rarely listen? Do they truly listen and take in what you are saying without offering unsolicited advice or brushing it off?

Maybe you are met with unhelpful suggestions as to how you can feel better or you are told to “look at the positives”. Counsellors don't do that; I won’t do that. I will listen and really hear you. I will try to understand what you are going through and help you find ways to move forward.

I am genuinely interested in what you have to say, I want to hear about your experiences. I want to help you to make sense of them and feel better, by truly getting to know you and holding a safe space so I can sit beside you in your pain and struggles.

If now's the time you've decided you would like to go ahead and speak to a counsellor, as scary as that may seem (and counselling does not have to be scary) you have already made the first step; the next step would be to contact me either by email at emmakellycounselling@hotmail.com or by leaving me a message on my phone or by texting 07933957478 - whatever feels like the easiest way for you.

Why counselling?

Perhaps you've found yourself on my listing because you are struggling with anxiety, feeling so anxious that even the small things seem huge and impossible to overcome.

Maybe you are experiencing problems in your family or romantic relationships, going through a relationship breakdown or struggling to maintain a loving relationship and be ready to talk to someone to understand why.

Are you looking to improve your self-esteem, to stop self-destructive patterns of behaviour and make some changes in your life.

Are you feeling stuck? Lost and not sure which way to turn?

Maybe unhealed childhood trauma is holding you back from living the life you deserve.

I can help you work through whatever is going on for you and to help you live a more fulfilling life.

How I can help you

I am an accredited professional Integrative counsellor (to be accredited means I have been assessed and demonstrated a high standard of knowledge, experience and development in counselling and psychotherapy) which means that you are the sole focus of the work we do together, and I will draw upon different methods to find the best possible way to help you. You are a unique individual, and I will take your lead and work with you in a way which suits you best. I do not believe that one approach fits all.

I use a non-directive approach (I am not going to tell you what to do - counsellors do not do that), I work this way in order to understand your world through your eyes.

I have worked with adult and childhood trauma, anxiety, relationship breakdown, self-destructive behaviour/cycles of behaviour, depression, low self-esteem and bereavement.

Sometimes past events can keep affecting us for a long time, and I can help you to explore, unravel and make sense of that in order to move forward.

I work with aged 16+ face to face, over the phone or online.

Next steps

Please contact me either by email at emmakellycouselling@hotmail.com or by leaving me an answerphone message or text on 07933957478.

We can then arrange to have a free 10-15-minute telephone conversation. This will be an informal chat about what you are wanting from counselling so that you can get an idea of what counselling is and decide if I am the right counsellor for you. If after that you feel, you would like to go ahead, then we can make a suitable appointment either in person, over the phone or online. There is absolutely no obligation to book an appointment and I will leave this decision completely up to you.

Alternatively, you can just drop me an email or text message and we can arrange a session.

A little about me

I am a fully qualified, accredited professional counsellor based in the quiet village of Rippingale (near Bourne). I offer one-to-one face-to-face, telephone or online counselling, in a discreet and relaxing space.

A great deal of my experience involves working within the criminal justice system for 10 years, working with teenagers, young and older adults. I also have experience of working for charities such as the RNIB, Little Miracles and in the civil service and private and public sector.

Before becoming self-employed, I worked as a counsellor for Little Miracles in Peterborough. Here I worked with both adolescents and parents of children with learning difficulties. I worked with self-esteem, childhood trauma, anxiety and depression amongst other things.

I am non-judgmental, here to listen and support you during your counselling journey and hope to build a trusting relationship with you. I offer long or short-term counselling and will work with you for as long as you need.

I am extremely passionate about what I do, and counselling has been my dream job for as long as I can remember. I have always been drawn to roles where I am helping people but with counselling it feels like a privilege to sit with someone in some of their darkest moments or when they feel at their most vulnerable. I will always appreciate just how hard it is to make the decision to come for counselling, but I truly believe it is also one of the most rewarding decisions you will ever make for yourself.  Even if it can be incredibly difficult at times.

I am a PSA Accredited Professional member of the NCPS (National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society) (PNCPS Acc), I adhere to their Code of Ethics and have regular supervision to ensure I work safely, ethically and always in the best interest of my clients. My client’s needs and welfare really are at the heart of the work we do together.

I'd love to hear from you, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know more or have any questions at all. There's no such thing as a silly question and I am happy to answer any you may have.

Even if you aren't sure that you are ready to start therapy yet, please do get in touch and perhaps I can help support you with any reservations, concerns or question you may have.
