About me

Welcome to Beech Tree Counselling. My name is Emma.

I offer a counselling space that can provide therapeutic support when you are feeling at a loss and overwhelmed by life. If you are feeling sad, or struggling with anxiety, if relationships are challenging, or you are facing a particular struggle, we may work together to help you find new perspective and hope.

Together we can listen to and address what is on your heart and mind.

My aim is to provide a companionship that will help you to understand yourself and your circumstances better, so that you can find a way through what is troubling you now.

Clients say that they appreciate having a space:

  • where they feel free to talk
  • where they don't feel judged
  • where they experience the support of a reflective listener
  • where they discover new ways of approaching their life and circumstances.

I look forward to discussing your hopes for your therapy sessions in an initial chat over the 'phone.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training took place over a period of several years in three different venues, each of which gave me its own perspective, and the counselling I offer is now informed by three key guides:

  • a belief in and support for the possibility of healthy relationship
  • the significance of the context in which you live
  • how we can come together to find out what means the most to you.

I offer humanistic relational counselling as a way to be present with you to your concerns and help you to find your own understanding and approach to what you care about.

Please see below for the areas of counselling in which I have experience.

I have also worked in a local counselling service offering general counselling; counselled clients following miscarriage, TFMR and stillbirth through pregnancy support services; counsel clients with a cancer diagnosis; been on chaplaincy visiting teams in hospitals.

Please visit my website for more information on how we might work together.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
