About me

Hi, I'm Emma.

I aim to provide a trusting environment where we can work together to explore your challenges and options. Perhaps you are looking to understand yourself better, acknowledge difficulties in how you relate to the world, or have a present issue you are hoping to explore.

I am a qualified, BACP registered Counsellor. I offer both short and long-term counselling and work in a relational, integrative way. This means I will work with you at your own pace, tailoring my therapeutic approach uniquely to you. I integrate a range of psychological theories and techniques depending on your needs and personal situation.

I have a particular interest and experience in working with neurodivergent clients and identity issues, including sexuality, sense of belonging, and sense of self. In addition to this, I have experience working with a wide range of issues including anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties, sexual abuse, grief and loss and much more.

Over the years I have become increasingly interested in the undoubtable connection between mind and body, and the way trauma reveals itself. I support clients achieve a connection between the two, working together to explore both past and present experiences in a safe, warm, and trusting space. I believe with the right support, healing is possible.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Interpersonal and Counselling Skills
  • BSc in Psychology

I am a qualified psychotherapist with a degree in Psychology. I have worked as a Counsellor for the local Mind for several years, including as Service Lead, managing a team of psychological therapists. I previously worked at 'Just B' as a Bereavement Counsellor and 'Talking Spaces' as a Counsellor. I also have experience working with NHS referrals.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I appreciate and empathise with how daunting and overwhelming engaging in counselling can be, whether it’s your first time or a new counsellor relationship. Everyone’s needs are different and it’s important you feel comfortable working with me.

I offer an initial 15 - 20 minute free consultation by phone to allow us to meet prior to scheduling in a first session. This allows us to briefly explore your needs, outline the way I work and establish whether I am the right person to support you. If we agree to proceed to a first session, I will let you know what to expect and confirm the details for you in writing.

I have a small number of concession/low-fee appointments available for unemployed/low-income, trainee therapists and students. Please ask for further information if you are interested. Please note, that there may be a waiting list operating.
