About me
Hello, and a warm welcome!
- Are you constantly putting others first, even when it leaves you drained or resentful?
- Do you struggle to say no, set boundaries, or express your needs without guilt or fear of upsetting someone?
- Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed by constant worry or struggling with a racing mind that never seems to slow down?
- Perhaps you’ve reached the point where you feel like you’ve spent so long trying to be everything for everyone else that you’re not quite sure who you are anymore?
If you’re nodding along, you’re not alone - and there is another way.
Many of the clients I work with feel stuck in a cycle of people-pleasing, anxiety, and self-doubt. You might worry about being a burden, upsetting others, or not being liked. You might feel exhausted from over-giving, yet uncomfortable putting yourself first. These patterns are often deeply rooted, but they can be gently unpicked and reworked - with the right support.
Therapy can help you break free from these patterns. Together, we’ll explore what’s underneath the need to please and over-give, so you can begin to reconnect with who you are - not just who others want or expect you to be. You’ll learn to recognise and challenge self-limiting beliefs, manage anxiety, and set boundaries with clarity and confidence - all while building a more authentic, empowered relationship with yourself.
I'm Emily Giles a qualified person-centred counsellor and cognitive behavioural therapist. I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), with a Psychology degree from the University of Manchester and 10 years of experience in mental health, including five years as a practising therapist.
My style is warm, open, and down-to-earth. I understand how deeply anxiety and people-pleasing can affect every aspect of life, and I know that reaching out for help can feel daunting. That's why I focus on creating a supportive, safe space where you can feel truly seen and heard- without pressure or judgement - and where you can open up at your own pace. I take great pride in building strong connections with my clients, placing the utmost importance on trust, respect, and empathy.
I believe that every person is unique, with their own experiences, struggles, and ways of seeing the world. That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. As an integrative therapist, I draw from various therapeutic approaches, including CBT and person-centred counselling, to tailor sessions to meet your unique needs, ensuring that the support and strategies we use truly resonate with you. I also believe that therapy should be a collaborative and empowering experience. While the journey may be challenging, it can also be deeply rewarding, bringing new insights, emotional relief, and the confidence to move forward.
I specialise in working with anxiety and self-esteem challenges. I also know how empowering it can be to break free from people-pleasing patterns and reclaim your voice and sense of self - and it truly is my passion to help others do the same.
I offer a free 20–30 minute introductory call (phone or video) so we can chat, get to know each other, and see if working together feels like the right fit. There’s no pressure - just a friendly space to explore what support might look like for you. 😊
If you’re ready to stop shrinking yourself to keep others comfortable, and start showing up more fully as you - I’d love to support you on that journey.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
