About me
Hello, I am Donna a warm welcome to you.
Life can throw us a curveball from time to time. Maybe you feel stuck in a cycle and wish you didn't feel the way you do. You could be experiencing anxiety or low self-esteem and want to work at being a better version of yourself by understanding and having a greater awareness of what has led you to this stage in your life. You have hope that you can work toward a brighter, happier future. Being focused on applying yourself to make a difference. You have the answers within. I gently and collaboratively work with you to help you gain further awareness and progress. There's always potential for growth.
I working with adults and couples. I have experience working with trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, health and social anxiety, PTSD, relationship issues, child-parent conflict, bereavement. I am a qualified integrative counsellor trained in Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Short Focused Brief Therapy CBT, Rewind Techniques and Transactional Analysis.
It can be daunting to know when or where to seek help, but by being here, you have made the first step to enter counselling. I offer a safe, non-judgmental, empathic space for you to discuss whatever you feel you need to, at a pace that suits you, and with total confidentiality. There is no magic wand or overnight cure but if you are willing to allow yourself time to work through doubt, shame, guilt, fear, low self esteem, rejection, abandonment and negative thoughts you will see yourself more clearly and manage yourself more effectively
Bereavement, Grief & Loss.
Losing someone close to you is one of the saddest and most painful experiences you can go through. You may feel as though the rug has been pulled from under you it can be difficult to contemplate what life might be like without your loved one.
When you first experience any kind of loss you may have the support of other but as time passes there often is an expectation to move on, get over it, but grief has no timetable, your grief is unique and will last as long as it needs to. I can provide empathetic support using Lois Tonkin’s “Growing Around Grief “model, which suggests that we do not move on from grief but we grow around it. I can offer you a nurturing and caring environment to help you talk about your feelings and cope with your loss and realise there is no right or wrong way to feel There is a famous saying that goes “grief is love that has no place to go” I offer you and your grief a place to go, to explore and to remember.
Relationship.
Couples counselling, addresses the problems arising from adult intimate relationships. The relationship rather than the two individuals is the client.
As a couple, we bring our individual experiences of childhood and our parents relationship to our own intimate partnerships.
Pressures of work, family, money and health can also take their toll.
In Relationship counselling it can be helpful to talk to someone together about what is not working between the couple and can be easier to hear each other in the presence a witness.
I will also help you find ways of communicating more effectively and resolving conflict.
