About me

Do you have thoughts or feelings that you feel unable to talk about with friends or family?

I can help you with issues that are difficult to talk about, including anxiety, depression, low self esteem, trauma, sexual abuse, autism and ADHD.

Some issues are more difficult to define. They can be more like:

  •       ‘Life feels really difficult’
  •       ‘I wish I felt happier’
  •       ‘I’ve been feeling really low’
  •       ‘I feel like I’m going mad’

I’m Debbie and I am genuinely interested to understand more about you and your unique experience. No problem is too trivial or too shocking. I will listen to what you want to achieve through counselling and support you to live your best life, whatever that may mean for you.

About me

I am a fully qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP) and I adhere to their ethical framework and guidelines, so you can feel confident that I know what I’m doing.

I work within a trauma informed, phased approach to ensure that we work at a pace that is safe for you. As an ‘integrative’ counsellor, I believe it’s important for the therapy to be shaped to your individual needs.

Tailoring your counselling specifically for you means that I can adapt multiple approaches to help you meet your therapy goals. I am passionate in my belief that people have an amazing capacity for change and growth. I work by providing an environment that helps people flourish and find their authentic self.

Some of the issues that I can help with

  •       Anxiety
  •       Depression
  •       Trauma – including PTSD
  •       Abuse – including sexual and emotional
  •       Neurodiversity – including Autism and ADHD
  •       Bereavement and grief
  •       Low self esteem
  •       Relationships

I regularly work with those impacted by abuse, such as sexual, emotional or physical abuse, including childhood trauma. Even a single incident of abuse can have a profound, lasting impact, including anxiety, depression and low self esteem.

As a neurodivergent counsellor, I work with all neurotypes but I find that autistic and/or ADHD clients benefit from having a counsellor who understands neurodiversity through lived experience.

I also work with couples experiencing relationship difficulties where neurodivergence, such as autism or ADHD is either suspected or diagnosed.

What will counselling be like with me?

I will listen to what you want to achieve through counselling and support you to live your best life, whatever that may mean for you. I will provide you with a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and down to earth counselling experience. I am warm, welcoming and empathic and I understand that deciding to come for counselling can be a big step.

I offer short and long term counselling sessions to adults of all ages within the UK. I work online or in person in my therapy room in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, RG27 8FA. I place no upper limit on the amount of sessions needed and this is a process we would review together whilst we work. There is also no minimum commitment and clients are free to leave when they would like.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
