About us

Welcome to Daisy Chain Counselling & Wellbeing service, a place where everyone is welcome to talk about their current or past life difficulties in a safe and confidential space.  We offer both short-term and long-term counselling from our rooms in Godmanchester, as well as offering remote sessions online and by telephone.

A Trauma-Informed Approach & why it is important

A Trauma-Informed approach can apply to anyone regardless of one's life history and accepts that trauma's impact is far more widespread than is often realised. Unacknowledged trauma can present in our inner world as anxiety, depression, sadness, grief, fear, isolation, low-self esteem, addiction, shame, relational issues; and procrastination with a sense of feeling stuck.

We can become disconnected from ourselves & the world around us creating difficulties with how we relate to others and deepening our isolation.  This can leave us susceptible to stress by lowering our resilience causing us to become overwhelmed with day-to-day living impacting our physical, psychological, and social wellbeing.

A Trauma-Informed Approach to counselling asks- 'What happened to you?' Instead of 'What is wrong with you?'

This subtle shift in perspective can open up new ways of understanding who we are and how our life experiences continue to impact us and our future. It provides us with an understanding of how symptoms of anxiety and depression can be manifestations of distress in response to circumstances and experiences. With a supportive therapist, we can begin to acknowledge that our responses are often normal reactions to abnormal events, and by making sense of our experiences we can clear a path to our future and allow ourselves the freedom to make different choices.

Member organisations *

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
