About me

Time to focus on you

Why is it, in our modern times with an emphasis on immediate and constant communication, we seem to experience less genuine connection with each other? Are we forgetting or perhaps even avoiding to connect with what matters the most, our own authentic self?

Instant connectedness has come to replace reflectiveness and introspection, leading to a loss of intimacy with self and others. Therapy addresses the essential need to stop, check in with ourselves and process our thoughts and feelings. It promotes connection with our own vitality.

About me

I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, practicing in Milton Keynes and Olney. I have a flexible, sensitive, relational approach. Over the course of our sessions, I will work very much in collaboration with you to understand what’s troubling you and formulate a treatment plan.

I focus on your presenting difficulties in the context of your early relationships and environment, helping you to create links between past and present to bring about a deeper and more cohesive understanding of yourself.

I support and encourage ways of contacting your own inner experience, the embodied felt sense of what it means to be you whilst building a trusting therapeutic relationship. Engaging in therapy can help you reconnect with a sense of aliveness, contentment and find more creative ways of participating in the world.

The core of my practice rests in relational psychoanalytic thought and humanistic-existential philosophy with its emphasis on the joy, pain and complexity of simply being human.

I offer both short-term work (up to 12 sessions) with specifically agreed goals as well as long-term (open-ended) for those who would like an in-depth exploration of their problems and a more stable change in their sense of self.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as an integrative psychotherapist with Regent’s University London, a highly respected, vibrant and innovative therapeutic community.

I have worked in both private and mental health charity sector for a number of years with adults and young people supporting a diverse range of clients from many differing backgrounds, sexual orientations and cultures suffering from a wide range of presenting problems.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My previous career in the corporate world gave me much insight into the high levels of stress, the challenges and expectations that many people experience in their daily working lives, the loss of equilibrium between public and private. This in turn can have a detrimental effect on relationships, one's state of mind and on health in general.

I also have an interest in the difficulties facing young people in our modern society and have supported a local youth counselling charity for a number of years, working with young people aged 13-21 presenting with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, academic, identity, gender and sexuality issues.
