About me

I am a fully qualified counsellor providing face-to-face and online sessions for adults, children and young people in Brighton.

We all experience emotional difficulties at some point in our lives, and when we do, it can help to talk about how you are feeling in a safe and confidential space. I offer a warm and compassionate counselling relationship to support you to find ways of coping. Together we can explore solutions for the challenges experienced by you or your child.

What can I help you with?

Depression, stress, and low self esteem are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience. Through counselling I can help you understand how to recover the motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.

Many clients also come to counselling to explore symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after traumatic events. I can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.

Sessions for Young People

I am passionate about working with young people. I offer both talking therapy and the opportunity to explore feelings, thoughts and experiences through art and other creative materials. This can help your child to make sense of what’s going on in their life and find ways of coping when things are difficult. I will contact you at regular intervals to discuss progress in therapy and any changes and developments you have experienced at home. I also offer support and strategies to the child and parent when appropriate.

Play Therapy for Children

I offer play therapy for children to help them understand their feelings and process events that have affected them emotionally. Rather than having to explain what is troubling them, children can use play to communicate at their own level and at their own pace.

Play Therapy can help children in a variety of ways. It may support them to manage relationships and conflicts in more appropriate ways and increase their understanding of their thoughts and feelings. Sometimes children may re-enact or play out traumatic or difficult life experiences in order to make sense of their past and cope better with their future.

The outcomes of Play Therapy may be general e.g. a reduction in anxiety and raised self-esteem, or more specific such as a change in behaviour and improved relations with family and friends.

I offer long and short term interventions. Some children will benefit from 6-12 sessions. If a problem is complex or has persisted for a period of time, a longer-term intervention may be required. Sessions for children are 40 minutes.

As well as my own practice, I also work for Your Space Therapies, offering counselling to children and young people in schools across Sussex.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My private practice is fully wheelchair accessible. Please let me know in advance if you would like to park on the driveway. There is a ramp to the front door and the property is all on one level. An accessible bathroom is available if needed.
