About me
Welcome
I am a qualified and experienced counsellor offering warmth and support as you talk through and make sense of what is concerning you.
Are you feeling anxious or down or that life is not going as well as you had hoped? It could be that these feelings are recent or that you have felt like this for a while, perhaps since childhood. Whatever is concerning you, I am here to listen and empathise.
How often do you feel that you are truly listened to? Counselling is a unique opportunity to be heard and accepted as you are. Talking through your worries in a supportive environment can feel like a relief, it can provide validation, you may feel like a weight has been lifted. Sharing your concerns and worries can be the start to you feeling differently.
My approach to counselling
I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is key to the success of therapy. I work to establish and develop a strong therapeutic relationship so that, together we can explore what it is you are finding challenging.
As our relationship develops, we create a shared understanding of you and your life, in our sessions we can explore your thoughts, feelings, relationships and life experiences at your pace.
This exploration and processing enables you to understand yourself in new ways, from this new understanding you may feel more comfortable with yourself and from there you can identify any changes you would like to make.
My Offer to you
I offer you a space to talk freely and in confidence without judgement, opinion or advice. I listen to you and work with you to understand what is getting in the way of you living a more fulfilling life. This time is for you to discover and focus on what is important to you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor.
I hold a CPCAB Level 4 BACP approved Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
As well as working in private practice, I work as a counsellor at a charity providing counselling to adult clients. I also provide remote support to university students with diagnosed mental health conditions.
Prior to counselling I had a 12-year career in international magazine publishing.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
