About me

Welcome

Is life feeling difficult?

Do you feel like you are functioning to the outside world but behind that you feel critical of yourself, anxious, overwhelmed and have low self esteem / confidence?

Life events might have left you feeling unsure of the right path to take and you are questioning what is next for you and how to live a life you feel more at ease with.

Counselling is an opportunity to explore why you are feeling this way.

These feelings might be impacting many areas of your life including relationships with partners, family, friendships and your career. Starting therapy with the right counsellor can be the opportunity to explore why you feel this way.

It might be that you feel you ‘should’ be ok and that your issues or concerns are not enough to have counselling.    I fully believe that counselling is for everyone and all concerns are valid.   Family issues and dynamics, relationships and life events impact us in many ways and we all experience life differently.

What is counselling?

Counselling is very different to a friend / family listening to you.  My job is to fully listen to you, to understand you and your world, without my own agenda or opinion. I do not offer advice.  Through our sessions I get to know how your issues are impacting you and what life is like for you.  Together we navigate our way through it.  I listen with no judgement whilst offering you empathy, warmth and understanding.

It is my priority to ensure that we have an open, warm,  therapeutic relationship and as that relationship develops that you feel able to share different parts of you and your story.

Our sessions together

In our sessions, through our conversations, you will learn more about yourself week by week and with that becomes a better understanding and relationship with yourself.  If the idea of talking about yourself is daunting,  I am able to use prompts including cards, writing, drawing which can ease you into the session.

I often hear people say they are scared that therapy will cause them to unravel.  Whilst it can feel uncomfortable and challenging at times,  I am mindful of the pace of the sessions,  I take my ques from you and  the pace you feel comfortable with.  In sessions there can be tears, lightbulb moments, challenge, laughter and celebration as we embrace you and your life fully.

Together we regularly review how you are finding the sessions to ensure that you are getting the most out of your therapy.

Getting in touch

It is important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose.  I offer a free 20 minute zoom or telephone call. This call gives you the opportunity to tell me a little more about what has led you to look for a counsellor and to ask any questions you may have.  If you would like to get in touch to arrange a call then please contact me via the form on counselling directory (link below) or send a text or give me a call  (07549 869732)  or send me a message through my website www.clairelaycockcounselling.co.uk

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
