About me

I am an Integrative Accredited Counsellor and EMDR Trauma Therapist who has worked with many clients experiencing a wide range of different issues and traumas throughout my career.

I am a therapist who is open and accepting, and I feel that my professional life is a reflection of who I am as a person in life also. I totally respect that everyone has their own lived experiences, and I truly feel honoured when a person trusts me enough to be able to share their own personal journey and how that has or is currently impacting them. I will strive to “be there to support” that person whatever they are going through or have been through in their life.

My approach is tailored to each person using different approaches, as I believe that everyone is an individual that deserves to “have their own space” to be able to discuss and process whatever impacts them, at the persons' own pace and work in a way that is collaborative and benefits the person in whatever way suits them.

I am also an EMDR Trauma Therapist who works with many different traumas that impact people and who might be suffering from PTSD. This might stem from childhood issues such as different forms of abuse, neglect, bullying etc, and could also be from specific traumatic incidents such as being in active service in the Military, accidents and witnessing and experiencing any trauma that hasn’t been processed properly throughout life. The EMDR therapy is very effective in being able to re-process memories of the trauma in order to move forwards within the person’s life - allowing the person to feel more in control and less overwhelmed with their symptoms and emotions.

I am honoured that you are taking the time to read this and I truly commit to respecting, honouring and supporting you through whatever has brought you to therapy and for whatever reason and I would hope that we could build a partnership together to help you to become the best version of yourself going forwards!

Experience

My counselling journey started when I became a volunteer Samaritan over 18 years' ago listening and supporting people, whatever they were going through in their lives. I then became a Teaching Assistant and trained as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant, helping support children with their own emotional well being. Within this time I also was a volunteer for The Farm Crisis Network supporting people emotionally, which also involved signposting to other organisations if needed.

I then decided that I would like to train as a counsellor as a career after having many years supporting people in different volunteering, as well as professional roles.  I found that having my own life experiences personally has massively helped me to have an open, more balanced, non judgemental sense of people, whatever they have experienced in their own lives.

My volunteering and training also included 2 years' at Hull and East Riding Survivors where I counselled survivors of abuse, whether it was emotional, physical or sexual abuse. After I graduated, I worked for MIND as a young person's counsellor travelling around schools delivering support.

I currently work within a large counselling organisation based in Hull and the East Riding working within the Talking Therapies contract for the NHS, where I have worked for the last 8 years. I deliver therapy to a wide, diverse range of clients who have experienced many different issues and traumas in their lives.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
