About me
I am an Integrative Accredited Counsellor and EMDR Trauma Therapist who has worked with many clients experiencing a wide range of different issues and traumas throughout my career.
I am a therapist who is open and accepting, and I feel that my professional life is a reflection of who I am as a person in life also, especially around my values and beliefs. I totally respect that everyone has their own lived experience, and I truly feel honoured when a client trusts me enough to open up and share their own personal journey with me. I will strive to “be there to support you”, whatever you are going through or have been through in your life, and I will work with raising your own unique strengths and self-belief to feel more resilient and confident going forward in life.
My approach is tailored to each person using different approaches, as I believe that everyone is an individual that deserves to “have their own space to be heard".I will work at your own pace and work in a way that is always collaborative and respectful to you, whatever you might bring to therapy - which might be issues or traumas from the past that might be impacting or affecting you in the present.
I am also an EMDR Trauma Therapist and work with many different traumas that have impacted people - often, any distress that hasn't been properly processed at the time can be re-triggered and could cause physical and emotional symptoms which could be Post Traumatic Stress. This might stem from childhood issues such as different forms of abuse, neglect, bullying etc, or could be from specific traumatic incidents such as being in active service in the Military, suffering an accident, or witnessing and experiencing any trauma that has caused distress within that person's life. The EMDR therapy is very effective in being able to re-process memories of the trauma in order to move forwards within the person’s life, allowing the person to feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
I am honoured that you are taking the time to read this and I truly commit to respecting, honouring and supporting you through whatever has brought you to therapy and for whatever reason -and I will strive to build a positive, therapeutic partnership to work towards being "the best version of you" going forwards, whatever that might be.

Experience
My counselling journey started when I became a volunteer Samaritan over 20 years ago, listening and supporting people, whatever they were going through in their lives. I then trained as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant, helping support children with their own emotional well being. Within this time, I was also a volunteer for The Farm Crisis Network, supporting people on the telephone.
I then decided that I would like to train as a counsellor as a career after having many years supporting people in different volunteering, as well as professional roles. I found that having my own life experiences personally and professionally has massively helped me to have an open, more balanced, non judgemental sense of people, whatever they have experienced in their own lives.
My volunteering and training also included 2 years at Hull and East Riding Survivors, where I counselled survivors of abuse, whether it was emotional, physical or sexual abuse. After I graduated, I worked for MIND as a counsellor within the East Riding and Hull region.
I then worked for 9 years within a large counselling organisation based in Hull and the East Riding, working mainly within the Talking Therapies contract for the NHS. I delivered counselling and EMDR to a wide, diverse range of adult clients who had experienced many different issues and traumas in their lives. I also worked with Employment Assistance Programmes with different companies and organisations within the region. I currently work in my own private practice, seeing clients face to face, on the telephone and online.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
