About me

I am an integrative counsellor who offers individual one to one counselling in a safe and relaxed environment. I believe that the relationship between client and counsellor is the most important variable for effective counselling and I advise anyone seeking counselling to prioritise how they feel within that relationship as a necessity for effective counselling.

In that relationship we should feel safe and able to be truly ourselves. We should feel respected and supported as well as encouraged to express ourselves openly.

Being an integrative counsellor means I work in a variety of ways to help clients find a way to express and cope with whatever is troubling them. At the heart of this process is a respect and appreciation for the courage it takes to enter counselling.

Sometimes in life we find ourselves no longer experiencing the joy or happiness we once did. We can feel lost and alone and struggling just to manage the basic tasks we have to fulfil. Our health and relationships can suffer because we are consumed by something we don't know or don't recognise . Sometimes we have experienced an event that has changed our life and changed who we are and we think we will never get back to a more contented time in our life. Counselling can provide a space to explore our thoughts, feelings, relationships and our experiences with the support of another person in a confidential and safe relationship so that we find greater understanding of why we are suffering. This process helps us to reflect on ourselves and to make choices and changes in our life if that is what we want.

Through my work in both the Voluntary and Private sector as well as in Social work and Mental health I have been privileged to work with and to witness the resilience and strengths that people have within themselves to work through their difficulties in order to improve their lives.

I have worked with a variety of issues including trauma, abuse, bereavement, addiction, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, relationship issues and many other difficulties that affect people. Each persons difficulties are unique to them and I will work with you in the best way I can to help you find a way of managing them and alleviating them.

Counselling can be a frightening prospect sometimes for people but it is a worthwhile process and can be for some people the first time they have had the opportunity to talk about the experiences in their life that has caused them often great pain. While this is not an easy step, for many people I have met counselling has allowed them to gain an understanding of themselves, an increased compassion for themselves and a greater appreciation of their own strengths and abilities.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
