About me

Life can be tough and you may be feeling like you don't know where to turn. Not sure what to do or who to turn to? Just wanting to feel better than this?

How are you? That's a question that gets asked a lot but it's often more of a statement, than an actual question. Most people don't even stop for the response and if they do they're often too busy thinking about their response to actually think about what's being said. It's no wonder then that we often stop asking ourselves that question too.

If you're ready to stop and answer that question, then I'm here to listen to what you have to say. Even if right now, you don't have the words or you don't know where to start? We can start with the question and go from there.

Life has taken me down many different paths, but the common theme has always been listening. I learnt early on how stopping and really listening to the answer could make the difference between another bad day and a better one.

I'm a qualified therapeutic counsellor, coach, NLP practitioner and facilitator who uses a compassion based approach, drawing on various theories so that I can support you to find your own way.

What that means is that you can talk to me about whatever is going on for you, knowing that I won't judge you or tell you what to do. I will listen to what you are telling me and offer you space and time to really explore how you are feeling.

I work in a holistic way encouraging you to pay attention to not just your mind but your body too. Together we can create a bespoke plan to support your wellbeing and promote positive mental health.

My aim is to support you to live your life whole heartedly. This means; being in the present, really being connected to who you're with, your surroundings and the life you are living.

Through counselling I will offer this to you by putting aside what's gone before and being there for you, really listening and supporting you to work towards whole heartedly living your own life, in the way that feels right for you.

How I work:

My experience has shown me how unique and different every person is and so I integrate different approaches to find what is right for you. Although the theory I draw on may change from client to client, what doesn't change is my belief that  all human beings need to feel safe, they need to feel valued and appreciated for who they are, not who they think they should be.

I understand that everyone experiences life differently so your experience of therapy should be as unique and different as you are. I can incorporate mindfulness, meditation, visual and creative activities into our sessions to support you to make the most of your time and to develop your own awareness around who you are and what supports you.

Sometimes our minds can get overwhelmed and overloaded.  Like a computer with too many tabs open, running on slow because we're working too hard. My aim is to work with you to help you look at not just what your thoughts are telling you but also to begin to listen to what your body is communicating. Too often we shrug off the tension in our neck and shoulders or the tightness in our chests as we plough on through our day. I will work with you to stop and to start to pay attention to all that your body is sharing.

I use a trauma informed approach to create a safe base, where trust can be built, where feelings can be expressed as they are felt. Not in some perfect language but in a way that they stumble, fall, flow out.

My aim is to support you to understand yourself better, so that you are better able to make the decisions about your life, that feel right for you. Together, we can look at not just what's going on now but also how to take care of yourself moving forward.

My practice is called 'heartspace' because for me, whether I'm working with you through counselling or coaching, 1:1 or as part of a group; it's all about connecting with you from a heart felt place, being fully present, really listening and supporting you to move from your heartbreak to your heartspace.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Getting the right counsellor for you is important so I offer a free short consultation online or by phone. This is your time to tell me what's going on for you and what's bringing you to counselling. I will answer any questions you have and we can talk together about what you are hoping to gain from counselling.

The time and the space is yours. No question is silly or unimportant.

If you decide that you'd like to move forward with the counselling and I think that what you are looking for is something I can support you to work towards, then we can look at finding a time that works for you.

Counselling normally takes place on a weekly basis at the same time each week. It's you setting aside time for you.

You can choose from sessions face to face, online or over the phone.

After the free consultation, sessions are charged at £55,  which is payable 48 hours before each session.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and follow their ethical framework to ensure that the work we do together is safe for us both. I offer counselling & coaching sessions in various locations in Swindon and Wiltshire.

Further information

Counselling is a personal experience and so it will be different for everyone but it is a space for you to share, in your own time and in your own way, what's going on for you. To help you to unfold your story I will ask you questions and by really listening to your responses I will support you as you dig deeper into your own understanding of what is means to be you. I understand that it can be scary to explore what's going on, especially if your experiences in the past have been overwhelming or unsafe, so first we will create a place that is safe together and move forward at your own pace.
