About me
Do you feel anxious, on edge, burnt out or disconnected?
Life can be hard, and the body remembers past pain and traumas that you may be trying to avoid. Perhaps you keep yourself busy and distracted or focus all your energy on helping other people but you've got to the stage when you're not sure who you are anymore and just want to feel better than this?
Whilst talking therapy can be a powerful and transformative way to understand your thoughts and emotions, it isn’t always enough to heal what is stored in your body, but embodied therapy can help.
What can I support you with?
As an embodied counsellor I can support you with managing anxiety, worry and stress and learning to feel safe in your body.
If you struggle with not feeling good enough, have experience of mental, physical or sexual abuse/violence, loss and grief or painful relationships, I can support you to process the feelings that you may be holding onto and learn how to live the life you want.
Why is embodied therapy different from talking therapy?
Often people think in order to ‘get over’ something we have to go through it again by talking about it.
With embodied therapy this isn’t the case. Instead of reliving painful experiences through words we can create a supported experience by attending to what your body is feeling and learning what the body needs, in order to let go of the trauma and feel safe again.
That said, you may want to share the words and your mind may need to make meaning from your experiences and that’s ok too. With embodied counselling you can do both.
Together we can create a bespoke plan to support your wellbeing and promote positive mental health.
My aim is to support you to live your life whole heartedly. This means; being in the present, really being connected to who you're with, your surroundings and the life you are living.
Through counselling I will offer this to you by being there for you, really listening and supporting you to work towards whole heartedly living your own life, in the way that feels right for you.
How I work:
I'm an Integrative Embodied Counsellor and Coach experienced in supporting clients to develop the flow of communication between their mind, body and soul. What that means is I work holistically to support you to understand yourself and feel more connected to who you truly are. I specialise in helping clients to develop self esteem and self compassion after difficult childhoods or past events.
Working in an embodied way is about stopping and paying attention to how your body is responding to everyday life as well as past experiences.
- Perhaps you've noticed that whenever you have to go to the shops your heart beats faster and your breath gets shallow?
- Perhaps you've noticed that when you know you are going to be in a big group of people your mouth feels dry and you feel jumpy or on edge?
- Or perhaps you've noticed that you feel really drained and zoned out when people are shouting or in disagreement?
If this is the case you may not like the thought of paying attention to your body and that's a perfectly normal response. But embodied therapy can help you to start to manage those uncomfortable feelings so that you don't have to stop or avoid doing the things you want to in life.
Through embodied therapy you will learn how to make links between your experiences and your bodily response, which will help you to start to understand all those uncomfortable sensations in the body and how to support yourself through them.
What is embodied counselling like?
Just like traditional talking therapy, embodied therapy is about going inward to find out more. But the beauty of embodied therapy is that we are not only drawing on the wisdom of our minds but also the innate understanding of our body. When we put these pieces together this often leads to a more soulful connection and understanding of life and what it means to be you.
Embodied therapy is about asking questions of the body and about our experience in our body. So for instance:
- Take a moment to think of something that makes you feel really happy.
- How does your body respond?
- Perhaps you notice that your mouth turns up at the edges or that you feel warm in your tummy or a sense of expansion in your chest?
- There's no right or wrong answer. It's just about learning how you interpret the signals your body sends you, tuning in to your 'felt sense'
Embodied therapy is about noticing how your body responds and working with what comes up in a safe and supported way. It's about utilising your body's wisdom to provide comfort to yourself and build trust in yourself.
In order to begin healing you first need to feel safe but trust can be hard if your experiences have left you feeling out of control and afraid. Our first few sessions will be about establishing a sense of safety together and learning what helps you to feel safer.
You will learn techniques to:
- Calm anxiety
- Self soothe
- Find safety
- Come back from disconnection & dissociation
- Build a sense of self control
- Develop self trust
- Name feelings
- Feel feelings
- Release feelings
You will understand your anxiety and trauma from the inside out.
Understanding the why behind your thoughts & feelings can lead to developing self compassion as you really start to understand how life and what you have lived through has an impact on you even perhaps why it may have left you feeling not good enough or doubting yourself. You can use this knowledge to support yourself to make decisions moving forward that are based on what really feels right for you, to support yourself through life ,not just for the hard times but to really adapt to challenges and to thrive.
I understand that everyone experiences life differently so your experience of therapy should be as unique and different as you are.
I can incorporate various activities into sessions including:
- movement
- mindfulness
- meditation
- breath work
- visual activities
- creative activities
My aim is to support you to understand yourself better, so that you are better able to make the decisions about your life, that feel right for you. Together, we can look at not just what's going on now but also how to take care of yourself moving forward.
My practice is called 'heartspace' because for me, whether I'm working with you through counselling or coaching, 1:1 or as part of a group; it's all about connecting with you from a heart felt place, being fully present, really listening and supporting you to move from your heartbreak to your heartspace.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
Getting the right counsellor for you is important so I offer a free short consultation online or by phone. This is your time to tell me what's going on for you and what's bringing you to counselling. I will answer any questions you have and we can talk together about what you are hoping to gain from counselling.
The time and the space is yours. No question is silly or unimportant.
If you decide that you'd like to move forward with the counselling and I think that what you are looking for is something I can support you to work towards, then we can look at finding a time that works for you.
Counselling normally takes place on a weekly basis at the same time each week. It's you setting aside time for you.
You can choose from sessions face to face, online or over the phone.
After the free consultation, sessions are charged at £60, which is payable 48 hours before each session.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and follow their ethical framework to ensure that the work we do together is safe for us both. I offer counselling & coaching sessions from my Chippenham practice or online.
Further information
Counselling is a personal experience and so it will be different for everyone but it is a space for you to share, in your own time and in your own way, what's going on for you. To help you to unfold your story I will ask you questions and by really listening to your responses I will support you as you dig deeper into your own understanding of what is means to be you. I understand that it can be scary to explore what's going on, especially if your experiences in the past have been overwhelming or unsafe, so first we will create a place that is safe together and move forward at your own pace.
