About me

Hello, I am Carolyn, I work with both adults and young people supporting them to explore whatever it is that is stopping them moving forward in their journey. Once you can understand what holds you back it's then easier to explore change. Perhaps it is low mood, anxiety, anxious thoughts, overthinking, low self-esteem or even catastrophising. Equally, you maybe looking for a confidential space to explore feelings and emotions that are impacting your everyday life. Whatever it is I can offer a warm, empathic and safe enviroment for you.  I am a genuine and warm person who will be beside you as we bulid a therapeutic relationship to enable you to do this.

So how do we work together?

Firstly, we will go at a pace that suits you, as we spend time in understanding what you're struggling with and what your hopes are from counselling.  I will work alongside you as you explore the future you would like. I will listen unconditionally, support, encourage and at times gently and sympathetically challenge your irrational or unhelpful thinking to focus you on the conflict between your attitude and your goal. I will not give you advice but may suggest other ways to explore and understand your feelings so as to help you find the answers and clarity you need to find the answers for yourself.

I work in an integrative way, from a person-centred approach. This means my counselling approach is tailored towards working with each individual child, young person or adult and their unique set of needs. You will go through a journey of self-discovery and increased awareness. First it's about awareness, then acceptance and then change. It will enable you to make healthier and better choices for yourself.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
